Apple eyeing Nvidia's CUDA technology?
CNet's Tom Krazit says:
Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference is expected to cover the parallel tracks of Mac and iPhone software development, but the company may have another aspect of parallelism to discuss next week.
Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, in an interview earlier this week, suggested that Apple might have plans for Nvidia's CUDA technology as part of the WWDC festivities next week. CUDA is a programming technology that allows software developers to take advantage of the unique parallel processing characteristics of graphics processors such as Nvidia's GeForce 8600M, found in the MacBook Pro. Nvidia released a beta version of CUDA for Mac OS X back in February.

Apple to charge iPod Touch owners for new OS - again
The Register's Tony Smith reports:
WWDC Apple will release version 2.0 of the iPhone operating system in early July, CEO Steve Jobs has revealed. Existing iPhone owners will get it for free - iPod Touch owners, however, will have to cough up $10....
Still, Touch owners aggrieved by the $10 upgrade charge may feel happier knowing that the update costs half of what the last one did but delivers more.
But you have to ask, is Apple really so ungenerous it can't take $10 on the chin?.....

Apple Talks About Snow Leopard OS, Aims to Ice Windows
DailyTech blogger Jason Mick says:
Today at Apple, fast on the heels of the announcement of a vastly improved 3G iPhone came a preview of the new Apple operating system Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6). Apple hopes that Snow Leopard "builds on the incredible success" of its Leopard predecessor.....
The new OS marks a continued push on Apple's part towards a longer more Windows-like development cycle for Apple. Apple has often been criticized for having too short a development cycle. The OS X family has seen the production times slowly increase from an initial release-a-year pace.

Supporting a Classic Mac 'Habit' on the Cheap
Low End Mac's Richard Lawson says:
About a year ago, I engaged in a little middle age nostalgia and decided to get into classic Macs as a hobby. Mac OS X is a great operating system and a wonderful leap forward, but for many of us there is a special place in our hearts for the System 6-to-9 era.
I made it through college and grad school on a series of Macs ranging from a Mac Plus to a Quadra 605, and I guess emotionally I associate these computers with an exciting and simpler time in my life.
Browsing the Net, I stumbled onto Low End Mac, as well as Dan Palka's System 7 Today site. Using these resources as a guide, I decided to obtain a few classic Mac machines to tinker with.

The Internet will bring even more changes in the coming years, as users increasingly move from traditional to cloud computing, he predicted.
