The iMac Gets Thinner and Faster
Inc. Magazine's John Brandon says Apple's new 21.5-inch iMac is almost as thin as an iPhone 5 and it lives up to its promise on speed - but you're going to pay for it, adding that he's used to a computer that slows down over time, but for the first time in recent memory, he's been testing a computer that actually speeds up thanks to the iMac's Fusion Drive, which automatically monitors what you do on the computer and shifts the data you use most to its 128GB flash drive module, while everything else is stored on a 1TB magnetic hard disk drive.
He notes that the iMac has several other advantages for small offices such as the 1920 x 1080 display's wide viewing angle, its fast processor: a 3.1GHz on an Intel Core i7 with 16GB of DDR3 RAM, and up to a 3TB drive optional in the new iMac, making this the iMac you want for office workers who want a clean work space and plenty of power and storage, but penny pinchers might balk at the price.

Microsoft Surface Pro Review - Think Of It As A Compact Ultrabook, Not A Tablet
Forbes' Jason Evangelho says Microsoft's Surface Pro has risen to the challenge of everything he's thrown at it: audio and video editing, writing, entertainment, and even some hardcore gaming, but is not a tablet, even though the form factor suggests otherwise. With an Intel Core i5 3317U and Intel HD Graphics 4000, 4GB of RAM, and an array of ports like USB 3.0 and Mini DisplayPort, the Surface Pro has the guts of an ultrabook, and further distances itself from the tablet market by running on Windows 8 Pro, meaning years of legacy Windows software is at your fingertips.
He notes that the Surface's Micron Solid State Drive (64GB or 128GB) also outperforms the NAND flash storage inside most tablets by a wide margin; making it more comparable to, say, a MacBook Air than an iPad or Nexus 10.
At 1920 x 1080 the 10.6-inch Surface Pro screen has a pixel density of 208ppi - a notch higher than Dell's XPS 12 and significantly sharper than the ThinkPad Yoga 11's 135ppi, and calibrated perfectly with excellent color balance and pure whites. It may not boast the Retina pedigree of an iPad 4, but Evangelho says its an exceptional display, and thinks the Surface Pro is a prime example of synergy between well-chosen components. Intel's Core i5, HD Graphics 4000, 4GB of RAM and the snappy SSD cooperate to deliver surprising AAA gaming performance yet another reason this machine sits firmly in the realm of ultrabook and not tablet.
He also praises Microsoft's Wedge Touch Mouse, which with gesture support baked in he considers a must-have.
However, battery performance, he says, is an unfortunate blemish on an otherwise exceptional piece of hardware, but fortunately Intel's upcoming Haswell chip brings significant gains to battery life in tablets and ultrabooks.

Six-Strikes Copyright Smackdown Starts In US
The Register's Iain Thomson reports tha five of the biggest US internet service providers will begin rolling out a Copyright Alert System (CAS) this week as part of a new six-strikes policy of restricting internet access designed to "educate rather than punish."
Verizon, Comcast, AT&T, Cablevision, and Time Warner have all signed up to the plan from the Center for Copyright Information (CCI), an organization set up by the ISPs, the RIAA, and the MPAA to build the anti-piracy system. An advisory board of internet interest groups like Public Knowledge is also onboard, providing a fig-leaf of respectability and common sense.

How Can we Protect Corporations from Hackers?
With the news of both Apple Inc. and Facebook Inc. (also now Microsoft - Ed.) being subject to hacker attacks recently, the susceptibility of all corporations is being questioned, including some of the worlds most sophisticated tech companies. And now a new report by security research firm Mandiant Corp. revealed cyberespionage attempts from a group in China that may be linked to the military. Tech expert Karl Volkman of Chicagos SRV Network, Inc., discusses the ongoing privacy issues corporations face.
"As cyber attacks become stronger and more sophisticated, the firewalls companies have in place are no longer strong enough to resist the breaches," says Volkman. "Even Apple, which boasts products that are resistant to malicious software are falling victim.
"While corporations are prone to attacks for personal customer information, the cyberespionage attempts have been geared towards gaining intellectual property as well. Further, the Mandiant report noted that the attacks from PLA Unit 61398 based in China were sustained attacks, averaging 356 days.
"As technology continues to improve, corporations need to continually invest in innovative and effective protective measures that thwart attempted cyberespionage," says Volkman, Chief Technology Officer of SRV Network, Inc. in Chicago, Illinois, is and an IT Professional with over 30 years of experience.
