Businessweek Cover Story - Apple Chiefs Discuss Strategy, Market Share, and the New iPhones

The current Bloomberg Businessweek cover story by Sam Grobart notes that the past 12 months have been an unusually active interval at Apple, with the company havign added the iPad Mini to its lineup, renovated its top-of-the-line smartphone with the 5s, expanded the iPhone line with the 5c, and released iOS 7 - the most significant upgrade to its mobile operating system in years.

Grobart observes that Apple also reshuffled its executive ranks, jettisoning the talented-but-divisive iOS chief Scott Forstall and splitting his responsibilities between Jonathan Ive, Apple's chief designer, and Craig Federighi, who heads software at the company.

Why You Should Buy AppleCare+ Before You Leave The Store

ZNet's Jason O'Grady says there are important changes to Apple's $99 AppleCare+ extended warranty program for iPhones and iPads, that you should know about before purchasing it.

O'Grady notes that while AppleCare could formerly be purchased any time during the device's original one-year warranty period, only covered hardware and software failures, and it didn't include physical damage, since Apple added the "Plus" suffix in 2011 the program has covered physical damage, and Apple will now replace your damaged iPhone -- for any reason -- for $79 per incident (up from the original $50), to a maximum of two incidents, and that AppleCare+ must now be purchased within 30 days of your iPhone purchase, and requires inspection of your iPhone and proof of purchase.

TouchCopy is a Mac OS X and Windows app, first released in 2005 as iPodCopy by Wide Angle Software. In the early days, iPodCopy supported backup of music for traditional click wheel iPods only. Since rebranding iPodCopy to TouchCopy, developers at Wide Angle Software have released many software updates, constantly keeping up with the newly released iPod, iPhone and iPad models. The latest version 12 of TouchCopy adds support of iPhone 5S and 5C, as well as keeping compatibility with older models including the iPhone 3G, iPhone 4 and 5. TouchCopy enables backup of music, playlists and videos to iTunes as well as the ability to copy photos, SMS, MMS, iMessages, contacts, calendars, notes and books.

Users have found TouchCopy particularly useful when dealing with iTunes data loss resulting from a hard drive failure or when switching to a new computer without a backup. The software's ability to do a fast retrieval and transfer of music, playlists, photos, apps and other content from an iOS device to a new iTunes library has often been praised by many users of TouchCopy.

The free version of TouchCopy available on Wide Angle Software's website provides limited free functionality including 100 free transfers of songs and videos and free backup of apps. The full version of the software costs $29.99 and allows unlimited use of the software, with free upgrades for life.
