The All-New Apple 27 inch iMac - You Need This Computer!!!!!
Jake's Rolex Watch Blog says:
I pretty much live on the computer which is by design and I am not complaining since I really enjoy it. I have however, been frustrated my whole computing life by how slow computers performed and evolved :-((((
My dream has always been to have a computer that could keep up with me, which seems like it should have been possible, but it was simply not reality not even close. I also noticed, the faster computers became, the faster my skills became, which made me feel like a donkey chasing a carrot on a stick.....
With the advent of Apple's all-new 27 inch iMac my digital-life just got much, much, much better and easier!!!! Everything is very close to instantaneous on the all-new iMac, which makes it feel like the computer actually understands me or can read my mind!!!....
The all-new 27 inch Apple iMac is Off-The-Richter-Scale Unbelievable!!!! Crazy, Stunningly Amazing, Over-The-Top, Beautiful, Off-the-hook, Astounding, Stupefying, Breathtaking, Awesome, Spectacular, Phenomenal, Extraordinary, Jaw-Dropping, Wondrous, Pure, Incredible, Delicious!!!!!!!!
Did he mention that he really likes the new iMac? This piece has to be the most extravagantly enthusiastic review of any product I've ever read. Ed.

Macworld Reviews 27-inch Core i5 iMac (with Core i7 option)
Macworld's James Galbraith more restrainedly says that the new top-of-the-line iMac takes the crown as fastest stock Mac model ever.... The new high-end 27-inch iMacs are the first to use Intel s Core i5 and Core i7 quad-core processors....
....Comparing the Core i5 iMac's Speedmark 6 scores to its iMac siblings, the Core i5 iMac was 27 percent faster overall than the second fastest iMac we ve tested [and] a MathematicaMark score more than twice as high as the 3.06GHz iMac. That s a lot of performance bang for an extra $200.....
....the built-to-order Core i7 iMac....showed even greater performance prowess....

PCPrices.net Reviews 27" 3.06GHz iMac
And PCPrices.net's Charles W. Moore & Steve Hildreth report:
Steve Jobs unveiled Apple's much-anticipated new "aluminum and glass" iMac line on August 7, 2007 with the most recent update to the line released in October 2009.....
We had a chance to test the new 27" 3.06GHz iMac. First off, let's just get it out of the way and state that this is a large computer that arrives in a huge box, and it's pretty heavy. Ok, that said, our initial reaction is wow. What a display. In either the 27" model we tested or an available 21.5" display, these iMacs are the first to feature LED-backlit displays with a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio for HD. While some may not like the glossy external treatment, the new displays feature rich colors and are extremely sharp. We could get lost in them all day.....

Why Go Pro When iMac goes faster?
Macworld's Rob Griffiths says that while the Mac Pro has always been something of a niche product, appealing mainly to those who need vast amounts of internal storage (thanks to its four drive bays), expansion (three PCI Express slots) or memory (32GB on eight core models).... with the introduction of the new iMacs, and in particular the Core i7-powered 27-inch model, it seems the Mac Pro s niche may have gotten smaller.....

Macworld Posts Keyboards Buying Guide
Macworld's Dan Frakes asks:
Is there a more underappreciated part of your desktop computer system than the keyboard? It's the second-most-used component - after the display, of course - and yet many people are still using the keyboard that came with their Mac.
That's a shame, because today's keyboards have a lot to offer.... [and for] laptop users; if you spend much time using your laptop at a desk, a separate keyboard and mouse can do wonders for your posture and health.
.....here are our tips for buying a new keyboard....

Macworld's Rik Myslewski says:
All hail the humble mouse.... the only peripheral you caress for hours a day (you only tickle your keyboard), but you may have never thought of replacing the limited Apple Mouse or Magic Mouse that shipped with your Mac or pondered augmenting your 'Book's touchy trackpad.
We're in the Golden Age of Rodents..... It's time to look at the mice you're missing. However, the wealth of choices can be daunting. We have a few tips to help you.....

The Man Behind The Netbook
Fortune's Michael V. Copeland says that a few years ago rivals mocked Jonney Shih, chairman of Asustek, for his purse-size laptop computers, but millions of netbooks later, Shih is having the last laugh.
According to the report, Shih is the largest shareholder and chairman of Asustek, the $21-billion-a-year tech conglomerate started in 1989 by four former Acer engineers, and the company that launched the netbook phenomenon three years ago, revolutionizing the stagnant PC industry. Asustek, or Asus for short, went on to sell millions of mini-notebooks and soon vaulted to No. 5 in worldwide PC market share.
Today virtually every PC manufacturer on the planet offers netbooks, the notable exception being Apple.

Apple Culture And Steve Jobs Explained
In "Four Things You Need To Know About Apple," Computerworld's Mike Elgan says that Apple actions seem inexplicable - unless you understand how the company views the world, and goes on to explain some fundamental aspects of Apple's culture in which he draws an apt comparison of Steve Jobs to the late, larger-than life cinema impresario Orson Welles, and suggesting that Jobs doesn't want to be remembered as a Lee Iacocca or a Henry Ford but rather as a Mozart or a Da Vinci....a builder of beautiful things, not a builder of business empires.

Will Secret Copyright Treaty Restrict Digital Rights?
Macworld's Jeff Porten says:
Most Americans expect that their laws are only passed after some period of public debate between Republicans and Democrats or their news-channel proxies. However, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) may be an exception to this rule, and if it is signed, many United States laws concerning the Internet and ownership of data may become substantively different.....

Apple's Tablet an End Run Beyond Netbooks
Low End Mac's Frank Fox says:
....mobile devices like the original Apple Newton, followed by the Palm, and now the iPhone are converging on the features of a desktop computer. New mobile devices won't just be a limited professional toy, but the real deal we carry in our pocket when we leave the desk....
Apple is certainly working on some kind of device. Apple is always working on a new device - no big secret here. They are a consumer electronics maker. The question is how will they make something that goes beyond anything anyone else has?
One simple question: Will it be a netbook or a tablet? I think that a tablet makes the most sense. Because it has no keyboard, it will not be seen as competing for consumers who want a laptop. Let all the other dumb PC makers undercut their own laptop sales by marketing netbooks.
But what will it do that will make you buy it?.... How will it be better than the iPhone?....

Hack Enables 10.6.2 On Atom Processors
MacFixIt's Joe Aimonetti reports:
Upon the release of Apple's update to Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6.2, a noticeable lack of support for Intel's Atom processor was uncovered....
This problem, if you will, has been recently solved due to a new hack on the 10.6.2 update.....

Hack Re-enables Atom Processor Compatibility For Mac OS X 10.6.2
Appleinsider's Sam Oliver reports that hackers have circumvented the changes in Mac OS X 10.6.2 to allow the latest upgrade to Apple's Snow Leopard to run on netbooks with Intel Atom processors, noting that it's still undetermined as to whether Apple had any deliberate intent in disabling Atom processor support and is engaging in a cat-and-mouse game similar to the one it's been playing with Palm, in which Apple has released minor updates to iTunes ostensibly only to break compatibility with the Pre smartphone

Skinny Acer Notebook Delivers Six-day Battery Life?
The Register's Tony Smith reports that Acer appears to have found a way to miraculously boost notebook battery life. According to Smith, Acer's Aspire Timeline 1810TZ apparently delivers a 10x improvement in runtime when compared to other thin'n'light laptops equipped with six-cell lithium-ion batteries, noting that after five hours' usage at a day-long conference the other day, a check on how long the Windows 7-based machine would continue to run indicated that despite using up almost 60 per cent of the notebook's charge, it still had a whopping 66 hours left to go, but then, Smith adds adds "it might just be a Windows 7 bug."
Hmmmm... Hey; d'ya think?

USB Device EcoStrip Helps International NGO Battle Sanitation Crisis
[Press Release]
Green electronics firm EcoStrip has announced a partnership with international sanitation non-profit Wherever the Need to donate $2 for every EcoStrip 2.0 USB controlled power strip sold online at http://www.ecostrip.com . Beginning Nov. 19th and continuing through Thanksgiving 2009 the donations will go toward building eco-sanitation toilets in impoverished communities throughout the world where they are needed most.
The USB 2.0 EcoStrip is a power strip that eliminates the flow of energy to computer peripherals when the computer is turned off, eliminating active and passive electricity flows to printers, scanners, modems, speakers, and stand-by lights. The device saves consumers money on their monthly electric bills, conserves energy and reduces its users carbon footprints. The product won Carlyle Associates 2007 Green Product Gold Standard Award.
"As a company, EcoStrip has always been dedicated to social causes," said Kameron Nesen, Publicist for EcoStrip. "We're thrilled that this partnership gives us a chance to support Wherever the Need s crucial mission. Consumers who buy our USB power strip not only help save money and reduce their use of electricity, but also enable us to give back some of our profit to a great cause."
"Now, more than ever, the sanitation crisis needs urgent international support," said Beverly Visty-Doman, Executive Director of Wherever the Need USA. With 2.6 billion people worldwide lacking access to proper sanitation, and thousands dying each day, most of them children, EcoStrip s support is a huge asset to us. We're very excited to work with them."
The announcement coincides with World Toilet Day, an international effort dedicating November 19th to raising money and awareness to the sanitation crisis. Wherever the Need expects the EcoStrip partnership to play a large role in the charity's November fundraising efforts.
Donations can be made at http://www.wherevertheneed.org or with purchase of an EcoStrip at http://www.ecostrip.com
EcoStrip is on a mission to educate the 270 million computer users in the US, and wants the EcoStrip mandated by the government to be placed in every school and Federal building in the US. Our goal depends on maintaining a creative and entrepreneurial environment where individual expression, achievement and recognition go hand-in-hand with our business objectives and performance.
Founded in 1997, Wherever the Need seeks to alleviate poverty and ill health through the implementation of sanitation, water and livelihoods, and in a manner that empowers individuals and communities without undermining their traditions and cultures. WTN collaborates with developing countries, such as India, Kenya, Uganda and Sierra Leone, to provide sanitation and water through specialized eco-san toilets, and to facilitate the conversion of human waste for local agriculture usage.
