ZenDock Kickstarter Fund-Raising Goal Exceeded; Adds MacBook Air Model
Fed up with their own messy desks from all of the wires connected to their MacBooks, a San Francisco couple decided to do something about it.

Inventors Cole and Kelly Flournoy have spent the last 18 months developing the first two products from their brand Zenboxx: the Zendock Retina and the Zendock Pro designed to hide the mess, behind the desk.
The ZenDock Kickstarter fundraising project closed this week after receving $106,915 in pledged support, more than doubling its $40,000 funding goal that was passed on May 10.
The docks combine your Magsafe power adapter and all of your peripherals wires, into a single seamless connection that plugs directly into the side of your MacBook. With the included wall mounting options, you are able mount the dock behind your desk, completely eliminating wire clutter from your work area. The Zendocks are precision milled from solid blocks of ultra high quality T6061 aluminum, anodized and bead blasted to beautifully match the MacBook finish, and have a durable and wear resistant cable that connects to the base unit.

And now, answering popular request, Cole and The Zenboxx Team are offering a ZenDock for the Macbook Air in not one but two versions - one for the latest Macbook Air which uses Mag Safe 2, and one for the earlier Macbook Air which uses Mag Safe 1. Both ZenDock Airs allow you to connect to high quality speakers (optical or standard), microphone, Magsafe power, Ethernet, and even other USB devices - all with one single connection.

You get the same cable clearing mountable base youve seen with the original Zendock, and since the ZenDock Air is smaller and has fewer cables, they are able to include their custom USB Ethernet adapter for no additional charge.
Features:
The Zendock Retina supports Thunderbolt.
Docks many more wires, all with ax single connection including Magsafe.
Dock can be easily mounted on the back of your desk which completely eliminates cable clutter.
With fully working prototypes and being ready to enter into production, you can expect much shorter shipping times.

The Zendock Pro base features Gigabit Ethernet, Firewire 800, Mini Displayport, 3 USB 3.0 ports (operates at USB 2.0 speed on legacy MacBooks), and dedicated microphone and speaker connections.
The Zendock Retina Base includes Mini Displayport, 3 USB 3.0 ports, dedicated microphone and speaker ports, optional Gigabit Ethernet adapter, and includes a Thunderbolt compatible pass through on the main topside connector.

Apple-Google Symbiosis; Apple Devices Remain The Best Platform To Access Googles Services
Quartz's Christopher Mims contends that Apple isnt competing with other technology giants like Google; its locked in a symbiotic relationship from which neither Google or Apple can extract itself.
Mims maintains that Apple makes experiences, and its chosen medium is hardware that fits into your hand, and the software that runs on it, noting that scrutiny of iPhone 5s technical specifications of reveal that it is easily the most powerful smartphone ever unveiled, and positive reviews of iOS 7 suggest that Apple has no problem staying ahead of rivals in terms of the human elements of its design.
However, he observes that Apples relative ineptitude in consumer "cloud services" complimentarily contrasts with Google, which does the Cloud masterfully well, but isnt about to produce the next iPhone, and its debatable whether or not one of its hardware partners can.
Mims says that as long as Googles key services - search, email, file storage, and the Microsoft Office-like spreadsheet and word processing service known as Google Apps - remain accessible through apps and web browsers on the iPhone, it remains the best hardware on which to access the Google services on which so many rely, and if Apple and Google could acknowledge their competitive advantages, Apples failure (or not) to innovate wouldnt matter so much, and the two companies could forge ahead by accepting that Apple is best-positioned to produce the vehicle for Googles cloud services.
