The Decade Of Steve Fortune Names Steve Jobs CEO Of The Decade

Fortune's Adam Lashinsky says:

How's this for a gripping corporate story line: Youthful founder gets booted from his company in the 1980s, returns in the 1990s, and in the following decade survives two brushes with death, one securities-law scandal, an also-ran product lineup, and his own often unpleasant demeanor to become the dominant personality in four distinct industries, a billionaire many times over, and CEO of the most valuable company in Silicon Valley.

Sound too far-fetched to be true? Perhaps. Yet it happens to be the real-life story of Steve Jobs and his outsize impact on everything he touches.....

He revived Apple and remade entire industries, defying the worst economic conditions since the Great Depression - and his own serious health problems.....

The past decade in business belongs to Jobs....

AFP reports:

Fortune Magazine crowned Apple top dog Steve Jobs "CEO of the Decade" in its newest edition....

The Next Frontier; Will Hand-held Tablet PCs Revolutionize Mobile Computing?

Maclean's Magazine's Chris Sorensen says:

From hardware and software makers like Apple and Microsoft to booksellers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble, many companies now appear to be betting the next must-have accessory will be a tablet a hybrid of a laptop and a smart phone that can be used to view media and connect to the Internet, among other things.

The stakes are potentially huge... Why, exactly, has the well-worn idea of tablets suddenly been resurrected?...

The most oft-cited reason is the phenomenal success enjoyed by the iPhone, which is essentially a mini-computer, and the belief that there's an underserved market of consumers who would like a similar portable device that allows them to, say, read an e-book or a newspaper, play video games, and watch a movie without ruining their eyesight....

MacBook Vs. MacBook Pro - Which Should You Buy?

AppleGazette's Kevin Whipps says:

Decisions, decisions. When it comes time to buy a new computer, it can be tough to make a decision. There's the processor speed, longevity of the product and, most importantly, the price. So how do you choose between a MacBook and a MacBook Pro? Here s how we break it down.

Featuring bigger and better screens and shiny new mice, the physical changes to the aluminum iMac in this update are the most dramatic since it was introduced over two years ago, but the speed improvements are marginal at best.

Toshiba Attacks 2.5-Inch Drives From Below - 320 gigs on 1.8-inch HDD

The Register's Chris Mellor says:

By putting 320GB of capacity on a 1.8-inch drive, Toshiba has signalled its confidence in this micro-drive form factor....

Tosh does have a 2-platter 2.5-inch drive offering 640GB with a 528.5Gbit/sq in areal density. In September it announced a single platter 160GB 1.8-inch drive with a lower areal density level of 467Gbit/sq in: the MK1634GAL....

Difficult Decisions (or why I only half-agree with Chicago Carless's Mike Doyle this morning)

Blogger Jay Ray says:

After reading the [Mike Doyle] entry at Chicago Carless entitled, "I Am a Future PC: Why I m Dumping Apple after 15 Years," I had a number of left over thoughts that needed to be removed from my head. I would like to first list the thoughts and then work out each separately. First, I thought of my relationship with Apple. Second, my thoughts moved to my work as a technologist and generally open-minded and curious individual. Lastly, my mind wandered to whether or not I felt as though I could ever fully devote myself to Microsoft or an otherwise non-Apple technology set. (Spoiler: I am not sure I can!)...

My last thought is at the crux of why I cannot, however, agree whole-heartedly with Chicago Carless. I have been using Windows 7 since the day it was released! I would even say I find it innovative in some ways and clearly better than its predecessors. When I think about using Windows 7 as my main and only outlet, however, I vomit in my mouth a little. Not because it is a bad OS or because I have preconceived notions of what it is to be exclusively a Windows PC user (although I do); my negativism is from my dislike of Microsoft as a company.

Mike Doyle has posted an interesting riposte in the comments.

The Mac Night Owl: About that Silly 10.6.2 Speculation

All right, you don't have to possess an inside track at Apple or be a registered developer to pretty much know that more Snow Leopard maintenance updates are on the horizon. So I will readily accept the possibility that there is no a 10.6.2 in our future, and it may even arrive by the time you read this article.
