Colliding worlds: RIM and Apple
News.com's Charles Cooper says:
I once asked Steve Jobs why Apple was so indifferent toward corporate customers. At the time, big companies were in the beginning stages of one of their periodic PC upgrade cycles, leaving Dell virtually alone to clean up.
So, didn't it make sense to more aggressively pursue that business? Jobs froze me with one of those looks.
That's not an interesting market, he said. Next question.
Silly me....
Now we're witnessing a interesting confluence of events. Apple's plying its consumer expertise to take the iPhone into the corporate marketplace. At the same time, Research in Motion is adopting the opposite tack with its product line. (RIM is reportedly working on an iPhone killer although details are still sketchy.

Handwriting recognition capabilities for the simple Chinese character set have been discovered within the iPhone 2.0 SDK firmware files. Handwriting recognition may be a generally nice feature for the iPhone, but the idea of a new Newton is certainly worth talking about.
It seems that Apple's upcoming iPhone 2.0 software update will spoil the party for Chinese developer Hanwang Technology, which still hopes to be be able to offer the first handwriting recognition software for the iPhone.....

Next iPhone May Be Locked After All
ITWire's Stephen Withers says:
Various snippets of information and rumour have led to an expectation that the 3G iPhone won't be network locked. But today's announcement from Vodafone calls that into question.
Vodafone's terse statement, as reported by iTWire's Adam Turner, stated "Later this year, Vodafone customers in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network."
Let's examine those chicken entrails....
