Dow Jones Mulls The iPhone
Barrons' Eric Savitz reports:
This is a bit of insider baseball, but I think it nicely illuminates a key issue for Apple: will corporate America be open to allowing employees to replace Research In Motion Blackberries with 3G iPhones?
I've been walking around with a 3G iPhone for about a week now, but so far haven't seemed to convince anyone at the Dow Jones IT department to let me hook up to Exchange. So for now, there's an iPhone in my pocket, and a Blackberry on my belt.

Jailbreaking iPhone 2.0 works (but )
MacObserver's Ted Landau reports:
It's official. Thanks to the "iphone-dev team" folks, you can now jailbreak an iPhone (or iPod touch) running 2.0 software. As to why you might want to do a jailbreak, given that iPhone's App Store already provides the ability to download third-party software, check out my most recent TMO column....

'Endgadget': Apple over-hyping iPhone 3G's success
Macsimum News's Dennis Sellers reports:
Chris Ziegler of the Endgadget web site thinks Apple's spin on the iPhone 3G's success may make
its launch look more impressive than it actually is.
He says that while Apple may have sold one million iPhone 3Gs in three days when it took the original iPhone 74 days to accomplish this as the company says, the first gen communications was available in less than one-twentieth the number of countries and an even smaller fraction of carriers......

Sketchy site offers iPhone apps 'at a price that's a steal'
TUAW's Robert Palmer reports:
iPhoneApps.org, currently the top Google result when searching for "iPhone apps," offers 10 apps for $25, including much-sought-after MMS and video recording capability.
But hold on there, pardner, because it looks like they make you jailbreak your phone to get the apps to work. According to a post by a disgruntled customer at Yahoo! Answers, the site is only selling ZiPhone, and instructions on how to install the apps shown on their homepage.....

Canadian Wireless Spectrum Auction over and Telus and Bell to GSM?
ehPhone's ruffdeezy says:
The Canadian Wireless Spectrum auction is now in the books. The winner? Overall it seems to be the big 3 - Rogers, Bell, and Telus.
Current cellphone giants Rogers Communications Inc., Bell Mobility Inc. and Telus Communications Inc. topped the bids, giving them more spectrum to expand their services, including Rogers' iPhone service.
Rogers topped the bidding by purchasing licences worth $999 million, followed closely by Telus with $880 million in licence purchases and Bell with $741.
This is good news for current iPhone customers. Maybe they will be expanding the 3G coverage area now. That would be nice since it isn't 3G unless you are in the coverage area.
