Apple May Expand iPhone Sales In Wal-mart Deal
MarketWatch's Therese Poletti says:
Remember all those people who camped out and waited on line at Apple stores to be among the first to snag an iPhone?
Well, that novelty and feeling of smug superiority might soon wear off if the rumors are true that Apple Inc. may sell its sleek smart phone at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. I was surprised when I heard the buzz. Isn't Wal-Mart the discount behemoth with more than 2,500 homogeneous box stores in the U.S., the antithesis of everything that the unique, design-focused Apple brand stands for?
Officials at Apple in Cupertino, Calif. were of no help in confirming the story, but that's to be expected. Apple spokesman Steve Dowling declined to comment. Even so, it does appear that the company, and its service/distribution partner AT&T Inc. will be selling the iPhone at Wal-Mart, possibly later this month, analysts say....

Study: Mobile Phones To Be Primary Internet Device
Network World's Jon Brodkin reports:
By 2020, mobile phones will be the primary Internet devices for most people in the world, according to a panel of experts, who also predict that Web technologies will probably not lead to increased social tolerance.
"The mobile phone -- now with significant computing power -- [will be] the primary Internet connection and the only one for a majority of the people across the world," the Pew Internet & American Life Project writes in a new "Future of the Internet" report. "Telephony [will be] offered under a set of universal standards and protocols accepted by most operators internationally, making for reasonably effortless movement from one part of the world to another."

iPhone 3G Unlock "Yellowsnow" Coming Dec 31, 2008
ITWire's Alex Zaharov-Reutt reports:
The iPhone Dev Team has done it, promising to release an iPhone 3G unlock "New Year's Eve 2008", for iPhone 3Gs with baseband 2.11.07 or earlier, throwing a few snowballs of yellow snow Apple's way!
The long awaited iPhone 3G unlock is now two weeks away, with the iPhone Dev Team claiming to have completed the work needed to break through Apple's restrictions....
Proclaiming that "'Tis the Season to be Jolly!", the iPhone Dev Team's announcement is like an early Christmas present that you can claim days after the event....

Battery Life Still Bane Of Apple iPhone User Experience
Informationweek's Alexander Wolfe says:
I love/hate my iPhone. Enjoy the call quality, Safari browsing, iPod listening, iTunes Store applicationing, and e-mail accessing (especially the Microsoft Outlook sync). But all of that is marred by the constant suspicion - verified by my obsessive checks of the battery indicator - that the thing will be fully drained of juice well before my day runs out of work.
Which leads me to my question for Apple CEO Steve Jobs: Hey, Steve, is the iPhone supposed to be a real business tool, or a fun gadget? Because right now, when I absolutely, positively need a device I can count on to be there for me when I need to return an important e-mail, or to last through an hour-long, end-of-day conference call, I turn to my BlackBerry 8300.
