2007's most Googled gadget is the iPhone
tech.co.uk's J. Mark Lytle reports:
Around mid-December every year one of the seasonal treats we look forward to most - apart from the longer happy hours in pubs, of course - is Google's list of the most popular search terms it processed in the preceding 12 months, particularly the technology thereon.
This year's Google Zeitgeist has just been made public and, as expected, is topped by everybody's favourite gadget, Apple's iPhone....

iPhone Tops 2007 Google Search List
VuNet's Guy Dixon reports:
Google has published its annual Zeitgeist roundup of most searched-for terms over 2007, and there are no prizes for guessing that Apple's iPhone tops the list of fastest rising global search entries....
Nipping at the iPhone's heels are Facebook and YouTube, which logged the number three and number six slots respectively.

Orange France says 'testicules' to unlocked-iPhone-not-unlocked claim
The Register's Tony Smith reports:
Orange France has denied a claim that the unlocked iPhones it is offering are not actually unlocked but were simply set to work with any French carrier SIM card rather than, say, a SIM purchased in the UK.
The claim was made by website iPhone Atlas late last week. Without stating how it knew this to be the case, the site said Orange-unlocked handsets will only work with non-Orange SIM cards in France.

Business Review: iPhone Out Of Touch With Business Needs
IT Week's Daniel Robinson reports:
Apple's iPhone is a good device for browsing the web using Wi-Fi, but is somewhat slow over GPRS/Edge. Its user interface is also a fine example of how to make devices more accessible. However, as a business client it needs better support for corporate email systems, while the on-screen keyboard is not suitable for typing anything other than short messages.

PC Mag: Beyond iPhone, Gadgets Led Year's Mobile Development
"The 2007 mobile music market could be summed up in one phrase: "It's the device, stupid."
And though no mobile music service or associated innovation gained even a fraction of the attention that Apple did by unveiling the iPhone, that story certainly helped shine a spotlight on other mobile music developments, if only by means of comparison. And believe it or not, there were other milestones in mobile music throughout the year."
