Your Congressman Wants An iPhone

TUAW's Steven Sande says:

TheHill.com is reporting that members of the U.S. House of Representatives could be getting iPhones when they return to Washington, D.C. after the elections.

The Chief Administrative Office (CAO) oversees all communications systems for the House and has been testing a small number of iPhones to see how they meet the needs of congressmen and their staffs.

House members and their staffs currently use RIM BlackBerry devices, with nearly 8,200 installed.....

iPhone Could Keep Investors Coming To Apple Despite Macro Risks

The Financial Post's Jonathan Ratner reports:

Apple Inc.'s fourth quarter results came with a dose of caution given the economic uncertainty it faces, but analysts remain optimistic based on the company's solid market position, particularly given impressive iPhone shipments of 6.9 million.

Apple: iPhones outsold BlackBerrys in last quarter

CBC News reports:

Apple Inc. said it sold more iPhones than Research in Motion sold BlackBerry devices in the most recent financial quarter, a surprise victory for Apple in its effort to topple RIM as the smartphone market leader.....

The company set quarterly records for Macintosh and iPod sales, selling 2.6 million Macs and 11.1 million iPods.

The big surprise, however, was the 6.9 million of its 3G iPhones sold in the quarter ending Sept. 27....,

Waterloo, Ont.-based RIM sold 6.1 million BlackBerries in the quarter ending Aug. 30.

iPhone Invaded by Ford Flex Photo Lab

MobileMag's Michael Kwan reports:

Even though several Ford vehicles have that Sync system that is largely designed to work with the Microsoft Zune, Ford is also showing some love to the Apple fanboys out there too. Turning Detroit's attention to Cupertino is the new Flex Photo Lab app for the Apple iPhone.

Working in tandem with the all-new 2009 Ford Flex, the Ford Flex Photo Lab effectively works like a slimmed down version of PhotoShop for your iPhone......

Google's New Phone May Even Make iPhone Fans Take Notice

AP Technology Writer Rachel Metz reports:

Given Google Inc.'s reputation as a trend setter on the web, I expected great things from its first mobile phone - especially since it is emerging more than a year after Apple Inc. launched the enormously popular iPhone.

And while it's far from perfect, the G1 powered by Google's Android operating system is packed with plenty of consumer-oriented features that may even make iPhone fans take notice.....

I was more impressed with the speed of T-Mobile's 3G network than I have been with AT&T's, and noticed applications and songs downloaded fairly quickly and easily. This could change, though, as the network is still quite new and there are not many phones running on it yet.....

A New Etiquette For The iPhone Generation

InfoWorld's Tom Kaneshige says:

Armin Henreich's infamous "I Am Rich" iPhone application - a $1,000 ruby-red screen saver - was pulled from Apple App Store shelves months ago, but its message still resonates loudly.

Now the iPhone, the tech symbol of the "in" crowd, is on the verge of crossing the line into AIG-like excess and arrogance. "I'm not sure, under the current economic conditions, that it's a great statement to make," says Rob Enderle, principal analyst of the Enderle Group. "You may not want to flash it."....

Intel Says iPhone Not Capable Of 'Full Internet'

Appleinsider's Katie Marsal reports:

Intel Corp. this week used a developer forum in Taipei to tout its upcoming Moorestown platform for next-generation mobile Internet devices (MIDs) while slamming Apple's iPhone as a device bogged down by its use of ARM processors.

Following his keynote presentation at the conference, Intel vice president of mobility Shane Wall teamed with colleague Pankaj Kedia, the chipmaker's ultra-mobility ecosystems director, in lambasting the iPhone as a device dependent on technology that's a full two to three years behind that which Intel can offer.....

PC Mag: Support for iPhone Hurting AT&T's Profits

AT&T said Apple Inc's iPhone would hurt full-year profit margins by more than expected, although it helped the top U.S. phone company grow revenue and mobile subscribers in the third quarter.

The company, the sole U.S. carrier for the iPhone, gained 2 million net new subscribers in the quarter, in line with the average estimate of five analysts polled by Reuters. Overall revenue rose 4 percent to $31.3 billion, which was also in line with Wall Street's forecast.

But as AT&T helped shoulder a price discount for the iPhone, its popularity meant the carrier's margins came under pressure. Shares fell 1.7 percent in pre-market trading.
