Analysts Recommend iPhone For Enterprise Use
Macworld's Jim Dalrymple reports:
Market research firm Gartner on Wednesday changed its stance against using the iPhone in an enterprise situation. The change of heart comes because of the iPhone's upcoming software upgrade, which will see broader support for security and enterprise email.
Gartner was among the firms that expressed concerns about the iPhone's use in the enterprise when it was first released. Marketed mainly as a consumer device, the iPhone's cool factor drew admirers from all walks of life, which led many companies to be concerned about its use.

Apple's BlackBerry offensive
Infoworld's Tom Yager reports:
Apple's market power derives not merely from its technology, but from its adeptness at reframing a familiar market to limit the field of competitors. In the most extreme example, Apple portrays its sole competitor as itself. The competitive messaging around MacBook Pro emphasized how it skunked PowerPC notebooks in performance. Later, Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro was sold as far superior to Core Duo MacBook Pro. Apple is 2X faster than Apple, so clearly, the smart money's on Apple.
At the press conference at which iPhone's Exchange Server connectivity and software development kit (SDK) were unveiled, Steve Jobs established and reinforced the premise that in eight months, iPhone redefined the entire smartphone market. Windows Mobile and Symbian Series 60 are now irrelevant, leaving only two relevant players, iPhone and BlackBerry. Given that BlackBerry is old, tacky, and unreliable, enterprises oughtn't waste time trying to prop it up. Out with the old, in with the new.

Gartner: iPhone Will Soon Be Ready For Business
ZDNet.co.uk's David Meyer
Analyst firm Gartner has decided that the iPhone will soon be "ready for business", nine months after warning enterprises to stay away from Apple's popular handset.
In June last year, Gartner issued a research note warning that a lack of device-management support and proven security, together with Apple's stated consumer focus for the device, made the iPhone unsuitable for business use. On Wednesday the firm changed its tune, claiming that the iPhone should soon be permissible at the "appliance-level" support grade once certain new features are rolled out in June.

Adobe Will Make Flash Work On iPhone
IDG News Service Mikael Ricknäs reports:
Adobe Systems is committed to bringing Flash to the iPhone, according to CEO Shantanu Narayen, even though Steve Jobs said last week that Flash isn't suitable for the iPhone.
But Narayen isn't wavering. "Flash is synonymous with the Internet and, frankly, anybody who wants to browse the Web and experience the Web's glory really needs Flash support," he said during a conference call Tuesday with investors, according to a transcript at seekingalpha.com.
He is sure adding Flash support to the iPhone isn't a problem. "We've evaluated the SDK, we can now start to develop the Flash player ourselves, and we think it benefits our joint customers," Narayen said.
