Hymn Project Receives Cease and Desist Letter From Apple Legal
The Hymn project has posted a note saying:
Well, I'm guessing Apple did not like the requiem project that was posted in Technical as the site host received a C&D letter demanding that all downloads be removed from the site. Until further notice, no links are to be posted anywhere on the site to programs that can strip DRM from any of Apple's music or videos. Any user who does so will get the link removed and a warning from us. Any further infraction will get you banned permanently. The site will remain open for now and we won't have a problem as long as we abide by the C&D.
However, on a more personal level this just pisses me off. In no way has this site ever promoted piracy.....
Because I can no longer remove the DRM from songs I purchase legally from iTunes, I am boycotting the iTunes store and purchasing all my future music from vendors who no longer shackle their music with the chains of DRM. I suggest you do the same. We've complied with the C&D and removed all DRM breaking software from the site. But they can't force us to purchase DRM'd music from their store. I've been a long time fan of Apple and iTunes. But this latest move just plain pisses me off. So, I can no longer support them.

iPhone morphs into PC mouse trackpad -Control the mouse on your PC using your iPhone
tech.co.uk's Anna Lagerkvist reports:
Cool application of the day: a piece of third-party software that lets you transform your Apple iPhone or Apple iPod touch into a wireless touchpad for your computer.
Touchpad enables you to create a wireless touchpad on your iPhone, letting you control the mouse on your computer using just the handset. You can move the mouse around, click, double-click, and even drag items by double-clicking on a file but keeping the touchpad pressed down. You can scroll vertically by click-and-dragging on the right edge of the Apple iPhone screen.

iPhone Wide Open
HardMac's Lionel says:
Last week we told you about our experiences vis-a-vis the iPhone and the latest hacks for sim unlocking.
Since then things have changed and protections for iPhone have now been undone in large part by the famous Geohot.
The latest hack lets you change the bootloader of the iPhone, ie the first piece of code that loads the the hardware drivers, the software that tells the iPhone what it is. The bootloader contains basic information on the iPhone, and these were exploited in its first draft, stamped 3.9.

iPhone SDK: What's holding it up?
Apple 2.0's Philip Elmer-DeWitt says:
The iPhone's software developer's kit (SDK) was supposed to be the answer to the device's many shortcomings: no corporate e-mail support, no cut-and-paste, no native games, etc.
Now, with only five business days before Apple's self-imposed February deadline, Arik Hesseldahl reports in Byte of the Apple that it ain't gonna happen at least not on deadline.....

Flip through your iPhone apps with AppFlow
Ars Technica's Chris Foresman reports:
What do you get when you mix 1337 H4X0R skillz, an iPhone, a book project, and several hours of hacking CoverFlow? If you're Erica Sadun, you get AppFlow!
Erica Sadun's CoverFlow-based launcher
Sadun, one of the early and prominent iPhone hackers as well as a prodigious TUAW writer, is working on a book called iPhone Programming. Last night, while working on CoverFlow, she came up with swell app launcher that is one big CoverFlow view. Currently, this only works with apps and not webclips, though Sadun hasn't yet ruled out the possibility.
