More Women Than Men Buy Apple's iPhones

The Herald Sun's Richard Conrad reports:

The fad iPhone has surprised the tech set by finding more homes in handbags than suit pockets.

Australian mobile phone companies confirmed more women than men were buying Apple's fancy iPhone, with one source saying up to 70 per cent of iPhone sales were to females.

Vodafone's general manager for Victoria and Tasmania, Paul Guerra, said the company hadn't researched why women had turned out to be much more receptive to the iPhone than men, despite early assumptions it would appeal more to men.

9 iPhone Business Apps

Macworld's Bill Wiecking reports:

Letting you play music, movies, and games, the iPhone and the iPod touch could be two of the best time-wasters ever built. But with the right third-party applications installed, they can also give you a whole new mobile workspace. No, they can't replace a laptop when it comes to real productivity. But you can use them to stay in touch with your Mac back at the office, update your to-do list when you're away from iCal, and more. Here are nine applications that can help your iPhone and (in some cases) iPod touch make you more productive, not less.....

10 Great iPhone Apps For Your Business

InformationWeek's Mary Hayes Weier reports:

Many business professionals who use Apple iPhones would love to use them like company-issued BlackBerrys or laptops so they could tap into such things as their corporate e-mail systems, customer contact lists, and accounting systems.

While options remain limited for using the iPhone like a networked computing client, they are expanding. Consider that when Apple's App Store went online in July, Oracle and Salesforce.com were the only enterprise software vendors with offerings at the site. Within the past few months, however, at least a dozen additional offerings have come online at the App Store that were designed to give iPhone owners a mobile channel into employers' computer systems.

How iPhone Cuts Business Travel Costs

Forbes' Bonnie Ruberg reports:

In an economy like this one, what company can afford to send its employees on the road with suitcases full of high-tech gadgets? To cut costs, business travelers just need to tote an iPhone filled with applications that help them book airline flights, organize schedules and deliver presentations.

Apple's App Store has hundreds of travel-related apps and almost all of them are $9.99 or less. Indeed, the iPhone is making life much easier for business travelers--or at least it will, once they figure out what it can do.....

iPhone Proves More Reliable Than BlackBerry

MAcUser UK reports:

iPhones are half as likely as rival smartphones to malfunction within the first year of ownership, according to a US provider of extended warranties.

SquareTrade reports that a study of 15,000 iPhones, BlackBerrys and Palm Treos showed that problems occurred with just 5.6% of the Apple devices, as opposed to 11.9% for BlackBerrys and 16.2% for Treos.

David Pogue Forecasts A Depression For The Storm And I Completely Agree

ZNet's Matthew Miller says:

It is not that often that I agree whole heartedly with David Pogue's reviews since he is a little too pro-Apple for me, but this time I can honestly say his review of the BlackBerry Storm is right on. The power of a BlackBerry is their QWERTY keyboard and RIM needs to forget about future Storm devices and stick with their niche of the market.

eBay Companies See Black Friday Shoppers Clicking for Great Deals

[Press Release]

Black Friday saw a buzz of shopping activity, as consumers took to their computers to snap up hot holiday gifts. eBay Inc. companies, including PayPal and Shopping.com, all saw consumers going online for great deals. The companies reported key online shopping trends, popular categories and hot gifts.

“Results from Black Friday show that shoppers continue to turn to the Web for their holiday shopping needs, especially for consumer electronics,” said Jim “Griff” Griffith, eBay Marketplace Expert. “Online shopping is convenient and allows consumers to find the best values and vast selection. Shoppers can visit eBay and Shopping.com to purchase all of their holiday items at unbeatable prices, and can pay quickly and securely with PayPal.”

Shoppers are Clicking for Deals

With money tighter than ever, shoppers are hitting the Web to find the best values for their hard-earned cash. A recent Nielsen study found that 78 percent of adult online users made a purchase on the Web in the past six months.1 Additionally, a recent survey conducted by Survey.com on behalf of eBay found that getting “great deals” was the most important criteria for shoppers when choosing where to shop online this holiday season.

Shoppers are taking advantage of the great deals on eBay to find must-have gifts. Black Friday online shoppers took advantage of eBay’s great deals, including the Daily Deal, $1 Holiday Doorbusters, Bid from $1 and Microsoft Live Search cashback. Consumers also turned to Shopping.com for their holiday shopping needs, searching most often for Nintendo Wii Fit and Nintendo Wii.

PayPal Customers Cash In on Great Offers

Data from PayPal saw 34 percent more transactions than 2007 and showed a 26 percent increase in online payment volume on Black Friday as shoppers cashed in on exclusive discounts and promotions from some of PayPal’s largest merchants, including Buy.com. Shoppers who use PayPal to make purchases on Buy.com will receive up to $20.00 off Buy.com’s already-low prices and free shipping. This exclusive PayPal promotion gives Buy.com customers’ significant savings on some of the season’s hottest gifts while ensuring that you can pay quickly and securely.

PayPal’s Payflow Gateway data shows that on Black Friday consumers are shopping the most during lunch time, with 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM being the busiest purchasing time for the past three years.
