Why One Mac User Chose BlackBerry over iPhone
Low End Mac's Andrew Fishkin says:
Mac users have always touted the Mac OS as one of the main reasons they use an Apple computer. There have always been and remain other reasons, such as elegant design, build quality, and even price-performance ratio, but it's the Mac OS that really makes a Mac a Mac. Since 2006, the OS has become even more prominent as a reason to use an Apple, as modern Macs use the exact same Intel processors as many generic PCs, and Intel Macs can even be used to run Windows (very well), natively and in emulation.
If it is the OS that makes Mac users choose Apple computers, shouldn't that same OS X, in a more compact version, make Mac users choose the iPhone instead of other smartphone models and systems? The iPhone even shares some of the Mac applications you already know and love (Safari and Mail) in very near to full-featured versions. Things promise to get even better with announced enterprise support including Microsoft ActiveSync to enable iPhone users to synchronize with a Microsoft Exchange server.
Why would any Mac user choose anything else?
Why do I have a BlackBerry 8800 clipped to my belt instead of Cupertino's finest?

AT&T Halts Holidays During 3G iPhone Launch Window
The Register's Tony Smith reports:
AT&T staffers have once again been told they can't take any time off work next month because of an anticipated "heavy selling period" resulting from "an exciting Summer Promotional Launch", a leaked memo reveals.
No prizes for guessing that the carrier is referring to the 3G iPhone and to its plan to offer the handset with a $200 discount, as forecast last month.

Getting On The iPhone
Forbes' Brian Caulfield says:
It sucks to be in the print business right now.
If it wasn't bad enough that newspapers are dying as cheap Web-based rivals thrive, now media companies will have to get by notoriously fickle Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs if they hope to secure a prime spot on the screen of the gizmo that could give them the best shot at digital relevance.
The Associated Press, however, is giving it a shot. On Apple's iPhone, "there was a button for stocks, there was a button for weather, but there was no button for news," says Jeffrey Litvack, director of global product development with the AP.
The AP wants to be that button on the iPhone. ...

Unlocked and pricey, iPhone is coveted in Israel
CNN's Dana Rosenblatt reports:
In Tel Aviv's wholesale fashion headquarters, where textile merchants follow in the legacy of fathers and grandfathers, many Israelis are looking for the latest in tech fashion: the iPhone.
Mobile phone store Z-Tov Ltd. in Tel Aviv carries iPhones among other cell phones and products,,,
The store clerk says the store pays a 50 percent tax to import iPhones from outside the country.
But the price doesn't hinder iPhone's popularity here, appealing mostly to young men quick to upgrade their 8GB to a 16GB model as if memory size is a barometer of male bravado.....

Apple Out To Recruit 3G-savvy iPhone Field Testers
The Register's Tony Smith reports:
There's now no doubt that Apple's bringing the iPhone to Australia: it's looking for an iPhone Field Validation Engineer there with "technical understanding and experience with GSM/GPRS, Edge, CDMA and UMTS".
So reveals a job ad posted on the company's website, though it's unclear how long the job description has been up. The position is based in Sydney, and the successful candidate will work with carriers to gain their approval for the iPhone to be used on their networks.
