Whoopi Goldberg So Frustrated With Her iPhone 4 She Destroyed It
Yesterday on ABC's The View, Whoopi Goldberg vented her frustration with the new iPhone which was so great she was compelled to "murder" it by smashing it to smiuthereens with her car door.
A longtime Apple fan, Whoopi says she lover her iPad, and has replaced the problematical iPhine 4 with a tried and true iPhone 3G.

Woz Solution To iPhone 4 Antenna Gripes: Verizon
Geek.com's Christian Zibreg says:
Want to hear a really interesting take on the iPhone 4 death grip straight from the mouth of Steve Wozniak, Apple's co-founder and chief architect behind the original Macintosh? When asked by Dutch journalist Henk Van Ess to weigh in on the iPhone 4 antenna issue, the Woz voiced his concerns by saying that "it's like the AT&T dead zone has been extended with this new phone."

Customers Line Up Early To Buy The Droid X
Computerworld's Matt Hamblen reports:
The Droid X, which may be the toughest smartphone yet to effectively challenge the iPhone, went on sale at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, starting with customers lined up outside a Columbia, Md., Verizon Wireless store.
The early buyers said the Droid X's large 4.3-inch screen was a big draw. They also like the touchscreen's responsiveness and the fast 1 GHz processor....
The Droid X, manufactured by Motorola, sells for $200 after rebate and a two-year agreement with Verizon. It runs Google 's Android 2.1 operating system....

Five Reasons Not to Buy the Droid X
TechStartUps.com's Peter Sadler says:
With the release of Motorola's newest phone, the Droid X, consumers are excited at the prospect for some serious competition for the iPhone. Gadget lovers are eager to explore the phone's latest features including the Droid X's speedy processor, Wi-Fi hotspot mode, Bluetooth voice dialing, and incredible reception.
However, as the Droid X begins to get tested and reviewed by consumers, it is evident that this phone may not be as flawless as it initially promised to be. With puzzled smart phone users in mind, TechStartUps.com has compared the device to the popular iPhone and created a list of the top 5 reasons not to buy the Droid X. Is it worth it to drop your iPhone and get a Droid X instead?
Five Reasons Not to Buy the Droid X
Not enough apps: If you are an application-lover, the Droid X does offer over 12,000 apps, however, that does not even remotely compare to the + 100,000 apps available on the iPhone.
Heavy to carry: The Droid X is 25 percent heavier than the iPhone and is bulky to carry around.
Harder to navigate: Although the Droid's screen is large at 3.7-inches, it lacks many features, such as two-finger zooming, which makes it more complicated to navigate.
Difficult to text: Typing on your cell on the go can be complicated, and the combination of the Droid X's lack of auto-correction and flat and crowded keyboard, makes texting almost challenging.
More expensive than the iPhone: With all the above flaws mentioned of the Droid X, it would make sense for it to be cheaper than the iPhone, however this is not the case. The Droid is valued at $200 (only after a mail-in rebate), with a clause that forces you to pay a $70 monthly service plan for a minimum of two years, and to make matters worse text messaging is not included.

iOS 4.0.1 'Fix' Will Not Change Reception Issues
MacFixIt's Topher Kessler reports:
As CNET's Erica Ogg reported earlier today, Apple has released the iOS 4.0.1 update, which is supposed to address a display problem with the iPhone's signal strength calculation, which Apple claims is part of the reason people are seeing the signals drop off rapidly when there is an interruption in the antenna's RF signal....
Overall do not expect this to be a fix for any reception problems. If you previously were concerned about bars dropping or fluctuating and were uncertain if this meant you were going to lose all signal, then the fix will address that problem.

Vista-Hating Microsoft Throws Poo At Apple's iPhone 4
The Register's Kelly Fiveash says:
Microsoft really, really hates its dud Vista operating system - so much so that it can now openly badmouth its own product while taking a bitchy stab at Apple and its current iPhone 4 antenna woes.

One-Time UK PC Giant Elonex Takes On iPad
The Register's Tony Smith reports:
We're not sure we'd agree with HMV's claim that Elonex is "world renowned for their e-book readers", not least because the UK company only released its first one a year ago, and that appears to have faded away with Elonex's bookshop partner of the time, Borders UK, which went into administration in November 2009.
However, Elonex is now having another go, this time with something a little different.
Well, different from most, E Ink-based e-book readers - this one, like the iPad, has a colour screen. It looks like the iPad, too, judging from the tiny pics on HMV's website and on Elonex's own....

Pennyweight 1.3 For iPhone Is Worth Its Weight In Gold
[Press Release]
Announcing that Rade | Eccles, the developer of Pennyweight, has just released the latest update for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. Pennyweight 1.3 was designed by professional dealers, for professional dealers, with an eye toward streamlining the process of calculating the value of gold, silver, platinum, and palladium based on weight, market price, fineness, and margin percentages. Pennyweight 1.3 provides a trustworthy mobile calculator that helps jewelers, pawn brokers, other dealers and individuals save time and money.
Users need only choose a few criteria such as fineness (purity), unit of measure (troy ounces, pennyweight, or grams), and enter the weight. Pennyweight will automatically calculate the value based on the current market price. If they want to break it down further, users can source their data from the New York Spot price or the London Fix price, fine tune their buy/sell multipliers, and base the calculation on current market price, previous day's close, or a custom base price of their own.
Other features of Pennyweight 1.3 include:
(*) Quickly calculates values for gold, silver, platinum, and palladium
(*) Live market feeds and 24 hour charts from Kitco
(*) Instant access to New York Spot and London Fix market prices
(*) Calculate value based on the current market price, yesterday's close, or a custom price
(*) Historical charts from Kitco.com in 30 day, 60 day, 6 month, 1 year, 5 year, and 10 year increments
(*) Ability to set margin percentages for buying and selling (e.g. buying at 60% and selling at 120% of market price)
(*) Privacy options include the ability to show or hide market prices on the main screen and set margin percentages on a separate screen so they are not visible to customers
(*) Feedback on the transaction and calculated value on a per unit basis (e.g. "Buying at $22.87 per dwt")
(*) Separate configuration settings and values for each alloy
(*) Cached memory that stores all settings and values between sessions. Safely exit the application to answer a call or use another app and resume where you left off
(*) Support for currencies of more than 125 countries
Business owners with have found that Pennyweight can also lower overhead costs. By making an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad available to employees, business owners no longer need to supply expensive hardware or laptops and can be assured that all calculations are trustworthy.

Trailing Stop 1.2 for iPhone Helps Cut Stock Losses
[Press Release]
Announcing Bottle Studios, the developer of Trailing Stop, has released their latest update for iPhone and iPod touch users. Trailing Stop is not only an app, it is also a system used by successful traders for cutting stock losses quickly while letting winners ride. This method of trading eliminates emotional decisions, alerting users when closing prices for their stocks indicate that they should sell. Trailing Stop is the only app in existence that provides this service. In today's volatile stock market, using a trailing stop strategy can mean the difference between big losses and realizing gains.
Trailing stop is actually a term for a simple yet effective money management technique whereby when a stock reaches a certain low point, investors sell it off to minimize any loss that would occur if the stock was held. Usually, that low price is called a stop price and is based on a drop percentage set by the investor. This weeds out the losers and builds a portfolio of winning holdings.
The trailing stop method of monitoring investments is commonly used by successful traders, whereas small investors typically do not apply the system when trading their shares. A Bloomberg study of 88,000 investors found that smaller investors are one and a half times more likely to sell a winning stock than a losing one. Not intentionally, of course. They are just unaware of how to choose top performers for maximizing profits and minimizing losses.
This is where the Trailing Stop app comes in. The application will keep track of the closing prices for a list of stocks traded on any U.S. stock exchange and determine whether any of them have crossed their stop price. When they do, the app indicates via colored lights that it's time to sell. A yellow light next to a stock symbol means it's dangerously close; a red light indicates that the stop price has been crossed and the stock should be immediately sold. Of course, a green light means that all is well.
Todd Johnson is the Chief Technology Officer at Bottle Studios and the person responsible for initiating the Trailing Stop app. "I use exactly this method for my own trading and it has improved my returns. I wanted to buy an app of this sort, and when I couldn't find one, I built it myself. It takes the tedium out of managing your stops by hand and makes it super easy," explains Johnson.
As the market has been so volatile of late, it is worth noting that anything that can easily help minimize an investor's losses is a great investment, in itself. Serious economic conditions make investors more prone to emotional and impulse decisions as they try to chase their money from losing stocks, which is a financially dangerous practice. Trailing Stop removes the emotional aspects and tends only to the business of closing prices and advising sell times.
Trailing Stop offers a host of important features:
(*) Easy-to-use interface
(*) Works for all U.S. Stock Exchanges
(*) Updates data after market close by downloading from server
(*) Eliminates impulse and emotion based decisions
(*) Helps cut losses quickly while letting winners run
(*) Trailing stop is a system proven to lead to improved gains
(*) Quick glimpse lights let users know when it's time to sell
(*) This is the only trailing stop app in existence
Device Requirements:
(*) iPhone and iPod touch
(*) Requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later
(*) 0.1 MB
Trailing Stop 1.2 is $7.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Finance category.
