Compass Two-Mode iPad Stand From TwelveSouth
[Press Release]
Compass is a stylish compact folding stand that lets you use your iPad in two different modes. First, as an easel, Compass displays iPad in both portrait and landscape modes. Second, flip open the secondary leg and Compass now holds your iPad at the perfect angle to let your fingers fly across iPad s onscreen keyboard.

Forged from heavy gauge steel, this slim, travel friendly stand lets you enjoy both hands-free and hands-on use of your iPad anywhere your iPad goes. iPhoto slideshows to Keynote presentations, Compass lets you see and do more with iPad. Compass folds up to the size of candy bar, requiring very little space in your backpack, computer bag or purse. It's an easel and an instant theater.
Perhaps the biggest strength of this attractively-styled sliver of steel is its versatility. Used upright as an easel, Compass lets you view and interact with iPad in both portrait and landscape modes, even if you keep your iPad protected in the Apple case. Use portrait mode for things like iPhoto slideshows, browsing the iBookstore or flipping through an online news article. Turn your iPad on its side, in landscape position, and Compass becomes the ultimate portable theater. Enjoy your favorite YouTube videos and feature-length movies anywhere you go, while keeping your hands free for popcorn and beverages.

Point Compass To Work Mode
Compass is the iPad stand for those who want to work on their iPad. Designed with a fold-away secondary leg, Compass instantly goes from an easel to a pint-size work station, angled perfectly for typing on iPad's onscreen keyboard. Compass makes typing on iPad more comfortable so you can put in longer stretches in Keynote, Pages or Numbers without the neck-ache that comes from working with iPad on your lap. Compass can be used on planes, airports, hotels, coffee shops, cafes and boardrooms. When folded flat, this tiny, yet sturdy, iPad stand takes up minimal space inside your briefcase, backpack or computer bag. In short, Compass gets the job done.
Compass Goes Wherever iPad Goes
Folded flat, Compass measures 7-inches long by 1-inch wide, about the size of a candy bar, and small enough to carry and use anywhere you go. Set it up on a desk, coffee table, night stand, kitchen countertop and pretty much any flat, stable surface you re likely to set your iPad on. Think of Compass as a portable easel to display your photography, a mobile movie theater or an instant work station that s angled at a wrist-happy position for onscreen typing. Made from heavy, powder-coated steel, Compass is solid and super sturdy with soft silicone pads on the feet to protect any surface you set it on - the perfect traveling companion for iPad.
Runs Circles Around Other Stands
Compass's versatility makes it perfect for business or pleasure. It's a handy platform for charging the iPad. If you plan on using a utility like Air Display, which turns iPad into a mobile second monitor, Compass is the perfect stand to have parked next to your MacBook, MacBook Pro or iMac.
Multitask Tool That Sets Up In Seconds
This mobile iPad accessory is easy to set up. Slide the Compass out of its case, fold out all three legs, fold down the two iPad supports and you're done. To switch to typing mode, all you have to do is fold down the secondary leg on the back of the stand, and position Compass so the secondary leg rests on your work surface and you re set to start typing your latest Facebook update or editing a spreadsheet in Numbers.
Compass sells for $39.99 with free shipping for a limited time.

iPad Sales: Why Tablets Are Even Bigger Than Forresters Anticipated
Forrester's analyst Sarah Rotman Epps contends that consumer product strategists, even those not in direct competition with Apple, ought to pay attention to the iPad, because it's defying common assumptions about consumer technology adoption, and noting that in Tuesday's earnings call, Apple announced that it sold 3.27 million iPads in its financial quarter ending June 26, and had shipped 3 million iPads, which calculates to some 270,000 units in less than a week.
Ms. Rotman Epps says that based on new data from Forrester's consumer surveys, as well as Apple's sales data reporting, Forresters now think their initial forecast was conservative, especially in the short term, and plan to publish an update later this year once they have more supply-side and consumer data. She explains that an assumption Forrester made in their initial forecast assumed that the iPad would behave like other similar consumer devices in its first year of adoption, with strong initial sales fulfilling pent-up demand for a hyped product, but that sales would slow in a summer slump, as typical with consumer technology purchases; then spike again in the holiday season. However, the iPad hasn't behaved like other consumer devices, and is riding a steamroller of momentum that indicates incredibly strong demand for this entirely new form factor. Ms. Rotman Epps says that in this case, Forresters missed the mark regarding their short-term and are revisiting their initial work.
She thinks the iPad's unexpected momentum may have been helped by the full-force ad campaign and store real estate that Apple has devoted to it, and the social influence of typically high-end iPad early adopters, and noting that awareness of the iPad is incredibly high, with a June survey finding that only 5% of US online consumers claimed that they'd never heard of the iPad before the survey, down from 17% in May, and nearly 10 million US consumers affirming intent to buy one.

Apple To Challenge Top Chip Buyer In 2012, Says iSuppli
Digitimes' Jessie Shen reports:
The phenomenal success of the iPad and iPhone is expected to make Apple the world's second-largest OEM semiconductor buyer in 2011, potentially positioning the company to become the world's top chip purchaser in 2012, according to iSuppli.
With projected semiconductor spending in 2011 of US$16.2 billion, Apple will leap over Samsung Electronics, which will drop to the third spot after finishing with US$13.9 billion, said iSuppli. Apple's one-step rise in the rankings will move the company to a close second place behind Hewlett-Packard (HP), which will retain its No. 1 ranking in 2011 thanks to US$17.1 billion in spending.

Confession: Mary Jo Bought An iPad And Loves It
Pixobebo reports:
Microsoft shill Mary Jo Foley bought her first Apple product. An iPad. What was wrong with Apple products before the iPad?
"I never wanted to be part of the Apple community because I have had so many negative, hostile and condescending interactions with not just Apple fanboys, but regular Apple users. If that's what thinking different was, I wanted no parts."
Why would anyone take Mary Jo's Apple rants seriously if she's never owned an Apple product? Why buy an iPad now?...
