Apple Suppliers To Start Preparing Apple iTV Product Components in Q1 2012 For Launch In Q2 or Q3

Digitimes' Aaron Lee and Steve Shen reports that Apple's upstream supply chain will start preparing components for Apple iTV sets in Q1 2012 in preparation Apple's scheduld launch of the new products in Q2 or Q3 2012, according to insider sources, and that rather than being a set-top box (STB) like the Apple TV that's been around since 2006, the iTV will be a full-featured TV set.

Lee and Shen cite Korean media reports indicating that Samsung Electronics started producing chips for the iTVs in November 2011, while Sharp will produce the displays for the new TVs, which are rumored to be 32- and 37-inch sizes initially.

Spire Puts Siri on Your Jailbroken iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch (Legally!)

Lifehacker says that along with the news of an untethered jailbreak came the ability to install Siri on any jailbroken iDevice running iOS 5.0.1 thanks to a handy installer called Spire. Of course, installing Siri is the easy part. Getting it to work is another story entirely.

Spire Needs A Proxy For non iPhone 4S Siri Support

The chpwn blog says:

Spire is a new tool for installing Siri on previously unsupported, but jailbroken, devices. Spire is a small download, but while installing it will download Siri itself (directly from Apple). Spire is available in Cydia right now. This will use about 100 MB of data, so connect to Wi-Fi before installing.

However, Spire is not a complete solution. Apple still requires authorization to use Siri, so information from an iPhone 4S is still required. To insert this information, Spire allows you to enter your own proxy server address... hopefully you can figure something out....

As has been noted, my recently released tweak Spire requires a proxy and data from an iPhone 4S to operate. As the point of Spire is to get Siri on devices that aren't the iPhone 4S, this might at first seem to imply that Spire is useless.

However, this is not because I hate you or because Im lazy, its because Apple has made it very likely impossible to defeat the authorization requirement. I reverse engineered it, and it does not appear possible to connect Siri to the cloud without information from an iPhone 4S.

However, that doesnt necessarily mean that Spire is therefore useless.

So, how do I get a proxy?

iPad 3 Home Buttons Begin Floating Around China

9To5Mac's Mark Gurman has posted images of a comparison between an iPad 2 home button and an iPad 3 home button, noting that these spy photos indicate that iPad 3 will likely come in both black and white - just like the iPad 2, and since the buttons are floating around China right now in large quantities, that signals that the iPad 3 is either in production or close to the production stage.

Government Of Argentina Blocks iPhone And BlackBerry Smartphones Sales

Blogsite http://www.manuals.ws says Argentinians wont be able to buy iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones from now on, or at least until the Argentinian economy is back on its feet again, thanks to the Argentinian Government making a surprising decision to block sales of iPhone and BlackBerry devices as a measure measures to help reduce inflation level and strengthen the Peso's US dollar currency exchange rate. In order to continue to sell iPhone smartphones, Apple and BlackBerry must build plants in Argentina, an unlikely eventuality, so if the Government doesn't change its mind, the Argentinians won't be able to buy iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones from now on.

Holiday Gifts Drive Apple iOS 12x Higher; Android Leads in More Countries

Apple iOS and Android devices were apparently popular gifts worldwide over the holiday weekend, with the number of new devices seen by Localytics over 12 times higher than previous weekends. Global growth in the two competing platforms was virtually tied, but with strong regional differences across the Americas, Europe and Asia.

Localytics provides mobile analytic services to top app publishers across over 200 million devices. A key metric tracked by publishers is how many new devices, or customers, use their applications. By calculating the number of new devices across its entire publisher base, Localytics can estimate the growth of iPhones, iPads, Android phones and other devices.

Among the top 20 countries for mobile devices, Localytics saw a huge increase in both Apple iOS and Android devices over the December 23 - 26 weekend compared to previous weekends since November 25. The US and Germany registered the highest growth rates for iOS while South Korea and Sweden had the highest growth rates for Android.

Overall, Localytics saw a total increase of 12.5 times more iOS devices over the weekend. Although iPhone is still the most popular iOS device by far, the strong growth of iPad and iPod touch certainly contributed. In the US, Localytics registered 21x more iPods compared to 14x more iPhones.

Android Grows More Quickly in 14 of top 20 Countries

Interestingly, Android finished in a virtual tie with a 12x increase over the same period. But at least in terms of recent growth, Android appears to now lead Apple iOS in a greater number of markets, despite a number of legal battles between manufacturers.

Android saw the strongest relative growth in South Korea, besting the iOS family by over 80%. Sweden and Japan followed with new Android device growth 45% to 50% ahead of Apple iOS. Apple maintained a lead in new device growth in 6 markets; US, Germany, Great Britain (UK), Italy and Malaysia.

Foxconn To Double Zhengzhou Factory Size to Produce More iPhones

M.I.C. Gadget's Star Chang reports that central China's Henan province plans to build the world's largest manufacturing base for smartphones starting next year. The base will be centered on the Foxconn Science Park in Zhengzhou, provincial capital of Henan, will cost 7 billion yuan (US$1.1 billion). Foxconn's Zhengzhou facility was opened last year and has already reached a daily production of 200,000 iPhones, with 130,000 workers, and output is expected to double with the new expansion.

Now That You Have Your iPad, iPhone, Kindle, Nook, Tablet, Smartphone, It Will Need a Home - 12-Year-Old-Inventor

Nowadays it seems everyone has an iPhone, an Android or Smartphone and more and more people are buying iPads, Kindles, Nooks and tablets. Apple alone is forecast to sell more than 100 million iPhones and iPads in 2012. As expected, this broad acceptance of these intelligent devices has given emergence to a sector of ever increasing importance, the accessory manufacturer. What's not expected is that a 12 year old would even think he could participate. But this 12 year old dzdock inventor is not typical.

Last month the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) awarded Dino Zaharakis its prestigious Global Student Entrepreneur Award for High School in a ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange. A month before that he received the "Most Innovative Product" award at Chicago's McCormick Center. Men's Health Magazine named dzdock one of its Five Favorite Stocking Stuffers.

image

Necessity is the mother of invention

The inability of many iPad docks and iPhone docks to accommodate the devices with a case led Dino Zaharakis to invent dzdock - a universal stand. He also noticed that although many devices were designed in the USA, few were Made in the USA.

image

His goal was to develop a stand that could:
• Place/remove a device without disconnecting its cable
• Hold a device with/without a skin in both portrait and landscape modes
• Be universal, accommodate iPad, Kindle, nook, tablets, iPhone/smartphones
• Be designed and made in the USA

image

"Only in America can an idea become a company with sales in more than 20 countries in a period of 6 months!" notes Zaharakis's dad. "Dino is the driving force. Throughout the year he juggles school, piano, football, lacrosse, swim team, Greek school and still has the energy to work on dzdock prototypes, check on sales and visit the local manufacturing plants."

Patent Pending dzdock lists for $29.95 on Amazon but sells on http://www.dzdock.com for just $19.99 -- using a promotional code ("DZDOCK19").

New iPhone App , intoxicheck, Aims to Reduce Drinking and Driving, Takes Guesswork out of Judging Impairment

Innocorp, Ltd's new iPhone app intoxicheck leads users through a simple set of before and after reaction, judgment and memory challenges so drivers clearly see how impaired they are in an effort to stop drinking and driving. Because it works on a smartphone, users have convenient access to the new iPhone app anywhere.

"New Years Day celebrations are just a few days away. This can mean big trouble for some people. Many people who drink tend to underestimate their impairment level. We hope people use our new iPhone app, intoxicheck, and use a designated driver or take a taxi to avoid being arrested for drinking and driving," says Deb Kusmec of Innocorp, Ltd.

image

Excessive alcohol consumption makes both driving and walking unsafe. In 2005, the Injury Prevention reported that New Year's Day is deadly for pedestrians. From 1986 to 2002, 410 pedestrians were killed on New Year's Day. Fifty-eight percent of those killed had high blood-alcohol concentrations, to say nothing of passengers and motorists killed by drinking and driving.

intoxicheck gives people a reality check about how buzzed they are. The new iPhone app is research-based and works by comparing results from a series of challenges users take while sober to results they get after drinking. There is no need to count drinks, or guess alcohol content in each drink. intoxicheck results may prove valuable in helping users make better choices, and avoid drinking and driving, based on real impairment level.

"By taking a series of reaction, judgment and memory challenges before drinking, you establish a baseline of sober performance that you can compare to your performance on those same challenges after drinking. In field tests of intoxicheck under controlled conditions, the new iPhone app provided a reasonably accurate assessment of a person's impairment level," says Kusmec.

System requirements:
• Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
• Requires iOS 4.2 or later.
