Taiwanese OEM Pegatron To See Strong 1Q13 Due To iPad mini Orders
Digitimes' Monica Chen and Joseph Tsai report that Taiwan's Pegatron Technology is expected to see a strong sales performance in the first quarter of 2013 due to estimated strong orders for the iPad mini and iPad mini orders also benefited Pegatron's revenues in November with on-year growth of 64%, according to sources from the upstream supply chain; although, Pegatron declined to officially comment about its partners.
Chen and Tsai's sources project that Apple is expected to gradually adjust its order strategy, outsourcing the majority of its iPad orders (60-70%) and minority of iPhone orders to Pegatron for the next three years and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) vice-versa, with iPad mini shipments expected to reach 8-10 million units by the end of 2012.

Apple's iPad mini Strategy Is Working
TGDaily's Trent Nouveau reports that according to Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, research data seem to indicate that Apple's strategy of launching an iPad mini alongside its regular sized iPad is paying off, and that while iPad mini sales are clearly cannibalizing some full-size iPad shipments, concerns over this trend are mostly "overblown."

Student Protesters Use Anonymous Chat App In Anti-government Rally
Budapest, Hungary - Student protests have been continuing throughout the past week with the yet largest mass rally taking place today at 17:00 CET in front of the parliament building. Last week the government announced drastic changes in the state funding of higher education which resulted in spontaneous protests all over the country, with students occupying university and government buildings and holding mass marches to disrupt city traffic. The young protesters have been spotted to use Loki, a new location-based iPhone app that offers an anonymous chat service for nearby users.
Loki is a location based people-discovery application that uses GPS location data to offer users chats with people nearby, suggesting the idea that if you find someone interesting online, you can actually go and meet this person(s). This is of course very useful for a mass event where you want to quickly propagate information to people who are in the same area.
Loki lets users drop pics and messages on the map, broadcasting them to the phones of nearby users. Nearby users can in turn react to these broadcasts, which then become a sort of chatroom where the users interacting with the post can see and interact with each other.
And just like chatrooms, Loki lets people use anonymous nicks so no personal information is revealed to other users unvoluntarily. This feature seems to run perfectly with the needs of these youngsters, who seem to be very quick in adapting new technologies to their needs. No surprise that this anonymous chat app is also seeing great pickup in more closed societies, where the option of anonimity seems to have more importance for people who are looking to make new friendships.
Loki keeps users safe by encouraging them to use anonymous nicks, and by user's location off the app, only the messages and pics they exchange are shown on the map. A built-in decaying mechanism also supports the privacy of the conversations and content posted within the app - everything that is put on the map simply disappear once they become obsolete.
