Ferrari FF iPad mini Integration Unveiled At Geneva Auto Show; Free Ferrari FF iPad App
Ferrari's 12-cylinder FF is the first four-seater with four-wheel drive in the company's history. The $295,000 base price, Pininfarina styled, 683 horsepower FF (the FF stands for "Ferrari Four" - four seats plus four-wheel drive) is also now seamlessly integrated with Apple technologies, thanks to direct access to its infotainment system via SIRI voice commands and incorporation of two iPad minis installed in the back of the front seat headrests as the entertainment system of choice for rear seat passengers.

The iPad integration is early fruit of technological innovation acquired through Ferrari's close relationship with Apple. According to a Bloomberg Businessweek report, Ferrari is in talks with Apple about broadening a partnership on in-car entertainment, Ferrari's President, Luca di Montezemolo commenting at the Geneva Auto Show this week that the company will be more precise about its partnership with Apple Inc. in the next few months. Mr. di Montezemolo is a known Apple fan, and met with with Apple CEO Tim Cook at the Cupertino campus last April. Eddy Cue, Apple's Senior Vice President Internet Software and Services, who oversees Apple's content stores, including the iTunes Store, the App Store and the iBookstore, as well as Siri, Maps, iAd and Apple's iCloud services, was elected to Ferrari's board of directors last fall.
"I am pleased and proud to become a member of the board," Cue said commenting on his nomination. "I have personally dreamed of owning a Ferrari since I was 8 years old and have been lucky to be an owner for the past five years. I continue to be awed by the world-class design and engineering that only Ferrari can do." I noted here at the time that Mr. Cue's appointment made Ferrari/Apple product crossovers or tie-ins virtually inevitable.
There is also a Ferrari FF app available on the Apple App Store with which you can configure your own FF (if only in your dreams, choose from the wide range of colours for the body and the interior, watch the official video and the photos with exciting backgrounds: from sand in the desert to snow in the Alps.

iPad Users Generated 80.5% Of North American Tablet Web Traffic In February - Chitika
As the tablet market heats up, Apple's iPad, the longtime front runner, has begun to experience increased pressure from its Android competitors, but it's still the overwhelming category leader. A recent report from an analyst at Tech-Thoughts projects 7-inch Android tablets to overtake the iPad in Q1 2013, supplemented by increased demand in emerging markets. In regards to North America, reports Chitika Insights, which regularly tracks tablet Web usage to quantify month-over-month developments. A new report updates Chitika's January study on the subject.
To determine the current distribution of Web usage among leading tablet devices in February 2013, Chitika Insights sampled tens of millions of U.S. and Canadian tablet ad impressions running through the Chitika Ad Network. The data used to compile current market share (for the Tablet Usage Share bar chart) was drawn across the time range of February 15th to February 21st, 2013. The historical data set utilized for the latter graphs is drawn from Chitika Insights December and January tablet updates:

In February, iPad users generated 80.5% of North American tablet Web traffic, a 7.6% decrease from December, but only a 0.5% decrease month over month. The Kindle Fire and Samsung Galaxy family of tablets posted positive gains between February and January, both rising 0.3% respectively, and almost doubling their shares recorded in December.
The group of Other Android Tablets (made up of smaller competitors such as the Dell Streak or the Lenovo Idea) posted a 0.4% share gain this past month. This could be due to the lower average price point of off-brand Android tablets.

Yet More On Why Andy Ihnatko Switched From iPhone To Android
Andy Ihnatko has posted the third and final installment of his chronicling and explaining why after five years he's abandoned the iPhone and iOS in favor of a Samsung Galaxy S III and Android.
He says he didn't switch because Apple has in any way dropped the ball, noting that Apple is in fine shape, and that the iPhone, and iOS are terrific products that continue to speak to people on a direct, compelling level. The iPhone, and iOS, improve and impress with each iteration, despite some well-documented wobbles along the way.
The iPhone simply no longer suits him, thats all. He notes that over the past ten years, Apple's been transitioning further away from the user of 1977, who delights to discover that their new computer came with a complete schematic and a disassembly of its boot ROMs, and has been focusing more aggressively on the kind of user who doesn't particularly care that they just bought a $1300 desktop whose RAM and hard drive cant be upgraded.
"With every move and every update," he says, "Apple increases the appeal of its products to mall consumers. These consumers want the document they created on their notebooks to miraculously show up on their desktops and their phones as well. They don't care about sharing it with others. They want desktops that are sleek and beautiful. Theyll probably buy new ones before theyll consider upgrading the desktops they already own. They don't want to have to figure out why a feature that works with 29 of the apps they've installed doesn't work with the other six; they'd rather do without that feature entirely, no matter how powerful it is." What appeals to them is iCloud, the 2012 iMac, and a simple mechanism for sharing photos to Facebook and Twitter.
Ihnatko observes that the iPhone is superior at "easy to use on day one," but plateaus after a month, and it's ideal if your needs are easy to anticipate - still his go-to recommendation for people who want as few surprises as possible and the easiest phone to use and maintain.
However, he says an Android phone is a delight starting around week two, after youve made a bunch of minor adjustments that change it from Good for the majority of users to great for you, personally, and he switched from the iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy S III because its the best there is at the kind of things he needs his phone to do. And as soon as something comes along thats better, He'll switch again.

Apple Adjusts iPad And iPad mini Shipments, Supply Chains Expected To Be Affected
Digitimes' Rebecca Kuo and Alex Wolfgram report that Apple is currently adjusting shipment estimates for its iPad and iPad mini products in 2013 to 33 million and 55 million, respectively, according to industry sources.
Kuo and Wolfgram note that originally Apple had predicted shipments for its 9.7-inch iPads to reach approximately 60 million units and the iPad mini 40 million units. However, not only has Apple dropped its overall expected shipments for the two devices, but it also expects the iPad mini to sell substantially better during the year, their sources inform them.
They also project that Apple's adjustment is likely to affect its supply chains, with panel providers for the iPad such as LG Display and backlighting unit (BLU) providers such as Radiant Opto-Electronics expected to take a hit in shipments and possibly revenues, while iPad mini panel suppliers such as AU Optronics (AUO) and affiliated BLU providers such as Coretronic are expected to see the opposite effect during 2013.

iPad and iPad mini Shipments May Be Affected By Touch Screen Sensor Shortage
Digitimes' Siu Han and Alex Wolfgram report that Japan-based Nissha Printing, Apple's main supplier of thin-film touch sensors for the iPad mini, may not be able to supply enough of the sensors for Apple's next-generation iPad and iPad mini products due to a lack of production capacity, according to industry sources.
Han and Wolfgram note that the next-generation 9.7-inch iPad is expected to use the same touch sensors as the iPad mini's thin-film DITO (G/F2) touch panel structure, which means Apple will be looking mostly to Nissha to supply touch sensors for both devices sicen the Japanese firm is a leading provider of the technology.
Sources tell them that Nissha currently has an annual production capacity for 60 million 9.7-inch equivalent touch sensors, and approximately 33 million iPads are expected to be shipped during 2013 while shipments of the 7.9-inch iPad mini are expected to reach 55 million units, indicating that Nissha's production capacity of the touch sensors will be exceeded by Apple's expected demand for the two tablet products. However it's reported that Nissha plans to expand production capacity by 30% before the end of Q1 2013.
