iOS Finally Gets Palm Compatibility

Love the iPhone, but still in love with Palm OS? You can have it all as StyleTap is standing ready to wrap up your Palm OS apps with an Apple-friendly iOS coating.
The StyleTap wrapper is like a one-application emulator, bundling an instance of Palm OS with every application to work around Apple's draconian restrictions, but it does mean that those struggling on with legacy applications which only run on Palm OS can at least get some decent hardware to run them on.

StyleTap iOS Wrapper SDK For Palm OS
StyleTap iOS Wrapper SDK enables you to deploy many of the 30,000 mobile applications written for Palm OS as iOS applications that run on standard Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod touch devices.
Why Use the iOS Wrapper SDK?
StyleTap Platform for iPhone cannot currently be purchased through the Apple App Store because it provides capabilities (e.g. the ability to download other Palm applications) that are restricted by Apple. The StyleTap iOS Wrapper SDK allows you as a Palm application developer to create an iPhone (iOS) application that "wraps" a Palm application inside StyleTap Platform for iPhone in a way that removes all of the restricted capabilities. You can then submit the resulting iPhone application to be included in the Apple App Store.
[Note: StyleTap does not guarantee that Apple will accept your iOS application for inclusion in the App Store. There are many reasons completely unrelated to StyleTap Platform that may cause Apple to not approve your application for the App Store.]
Similarly, if you are a large organization that doesn't care about the App Store but wants to deploy your key Palm OS applications onto internal iOS devices, the StyleTap iOS Wrapper SDK can help. It enables your required Palm application(s) to be embedded into an iOS application that can be installed internally on standard Apple devices, without going through the App Store.
Requirements for Using the iOS Wrapper SDK
The process for using the iOS Wrapper SDK combines information from Apple, StyleTap and the customer, as shown below:
iOS Wrapper SDK
From Apple: Your organization must belong to either the Apple Developer's Program (if you want to submit to the App Store), or to the Apple Enterprise Developer's Program if you want to deploy strictly internally. From the Apple developer website, you must download the iOS SDK and Xcode to an Intel-based Macintosh development system.
From StyleTap: You will download a template Xcode project, that includes the version of StyleTap Platform for iPhone for use on non-jailbroken devices. Also included is a document outlining the configuration choices needed for internal use or for applications to be submitted to the App Store.
From Customer: You will insert the Palm application (.prc and .pdb files) and your StyleTap license information into the StyleTap Platform configuration within the Xcode project. Finally you will build the Xcode project to generate the iOS application.

BlackBerry Owners Want iPads And So Do Android And Windows Phone Owners: Survey
Forbes' Elizabeth Woyke reports that a new survey from market researcher Maritz Research provides details on the percentage of non-Apple smartphone users who want to buy iPads, pointing to some reasons why, including the iPad's appeal to people who use non-Apple smartphones.
While it's logical to think people who own a certain type of smartphone - say one running the Android OS or RIM's BlackBerry, would prefer to buy tablets based on the same software or related software. However, Ms. Woyke reports that Maritz Research forund a preference for iPads even among people that own Android, BlackBerry and Microsoft Windows mobile phones; for example, only 8.5% of BlackBerry users expressed preference for RIM's companion BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, while more than half (53%) of BlackBerry using survey respondents said they would like an iPad if they were to buy a tablet, which speaks volumes about why the PlayBook is currently being offered at the fire sale, three-fifths off list, price of $200, and why RIM last week announced a $485 million write-off on its unsold PlayBook inventory.
Forty percent of Windows Mobile/Phone users also expressed a tablet preference for the iPad, as did, unsurprisingly, 77 percent of iPhone users.
