ARD 2 Allows system administrators to observe client computers and perform software installations remotely. It also includes over 50 new features, including:
- Distribute software either one package at a time or by specifying multiple packages for successive installations.
- Schedule software distribution.
- Copy files and folders to targeted locations in clients’ hard drives.
- Observe up to 50 screens simultaneously — not just Macs but any VNC-enabled computer, including Windows, Linux and UNIX systems.
- Share your screen or that of anyone in the network with all the users in the network (Mac OS X required on client systems).
- Remotely control the screen of any Mac or VNC-enabled computer.
- Communicate with your client users with instant text messages or through real-time, one-to-one text chats.
- Schedule any of your administrative tasks. Save and edit any scheduled task for future deployment.
- Centrally manage the startup disk for your client Macs, designating either a network-based disk image or a local partition.
- Specify exactly the features a non-administrative user, such as a teacher, has access to using the User Access Mode.
- Execute UNIX shell scripts or commands on your clients and get feedback on their success or failure.
The ten-client license is available for $299; unlimited-client is $499.
Bill's been using Macs since the late 80s. When he's not making smartass remarks to amuse Kirk Hiner, he enjoys fighting for the user.
