Macworld is reporting that Apple has sent out invitations to select members of the media to attend a special event at the Moscone Center on Friday, September 5th. Judging from the graphic on the invitation, the event, which will start at 10:00 a.m. PST, appears to be iPod related.

Hey, that's Mika's album up there. I own an album that Apple deems cool!
Oh, sorry. Back to the announcement. The event is promoted with the slogan "The beat goes on," and the invite features the traditional silhouetted character holding an iPod. Considering this and the fact that Apple hasn't updated the iPod in nearly two years, I'm going to go with speculation and guess that a new iPod is on the way. Perhaps one with an iPhone style touch-screen? We'll find out next Friday.
In the meantime, check out the full article at Macworld.com.
