Apple Cuts MacBook Air SSD Version Price By 500 Bucks

1955 Thursday afternoon, The Apple Store lopped $500 of the price of the 64 GB Solid State Drive Version of the MacBook Air and also halved the price of upgrading the Air from a 1.6GHz processor to a 1.8GHz processor on hard drive equipped machine from $200 to $100.

The price cut on the SSD version amounts to about a 16 percent reduction in the total price.

The Base MacBook Air stil starts at $1,799.00 but the 64 MB SSD version now starts at $2,598.00 - down from the previous $3098.00 still a pretty stiff price premium for 16 GB less storage capacity and little if any advantage in speed ot battery life. Put another way, the the Flash memory-based 64GB SSD drive upgrade now costs $599 instead of $999.
