Apple Adds Matte Display Option to 15-inch MacBook Pro

4097 In what is a fairly huge development for many 15" MacBook Pro fans, Apple quietly yesterday quietly restored a matte display option for the 15" unibody MBP as a $50 build-to-order option at Apple's online store.

Some may still gripe - and they have a point - that you could get a matte finish screen on the previous 15" MacBook Pro at no extra charge, but for those for whom this issue was a real deal-breaker, it will be welcome news, and I expect a lot of folks will cough up the extra fifty bucks, however grudgingly.

Can the 13" MacBook Pro be next?

The 15" machine's new matte display matches tha standard glossy unit in resolution at 1440x900 pixels and has an LED backlight, but incorporates a silver screen bezel instead of the glossy one's black

Apple still hypes the glossy version as displaying graphics, photos, and videos with richer colors and deeper blacks, but now advises: "If you prefer a display with antiglare coating for a matte rather than glossy viewing experience, choose the antiglare widescreen display."
