Apple's Greatest Idea Yet
SeekingAlpha's Jason Schwarz says:
There is an Apple story that I don't want you to miss. It's bigger than the Mac, it's bigger than the iPod, and it's bigger than the iPhone. Steve Jobs briefly mentioned it in the quarterly conference call and it deserves repeating, "We've never seen anything like this in our careers".
Of course, I'm talking about the App Store. This store is causing a sea change in both the mobile phone industry and the gaming industry that threatens the viability of all competitors. There have already been approximately 250 million apps downloaded among the 6000 applications available.....

In this article, I'll run you through a typical hardware unlock process, highlighting some of the quirks and a couple of awful potential drawbacks.

British Accents Frustrate iPhone Program
UPI reports:
British iPhone users said a Google voice recognition program developed for the smart phone in the United States does not understand their accents.
The free program, which was designed to translate voice commands into Google searches, was perplexed when users with accents from across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales attempted a simple search for "iPhone," The Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.

Flash for iPhone being considered by Apple
9To5Mac's Seth Weintraub says:
There's been a lot of noise around the Web on Flash coming to the iPhone. While some folks are in the "never going to happen" camp, there is some precedent for belief that it will someday be in the iPhone platform....
Flash may never happen on the iPhone, it is true. But it isn't like Apple isn't hedging its bets....

iPhone 3G Coming to Wal-Mart, Report Claims
PC World's JR Raphael reports:
Wal-Mart will begin selling the iPhone 3G this December, a report published online Wednesday claims.
The story, published at tech blog The Boy Genius Report and attributed to a leaked internal memo, says select Wal-Mart stores will start carrying the iPhone 3G right after the holiday rush, on December 28. About 2,500 Wal-Mart locations will offer the device, according to the site, as will 69 Sam's Club locations.

AT&T looks beyond the iPhone
Fortune's Jon Fortt reports:
It's the catch in every Cinderella story: Eventually the clock strikes midnight, and that opulent carriage turns into a pumpkin.
For AT&T's iPhone sales, the witching hour could be two or three years away - executives won't say exactly when their exclusive contract with Apple runs out. But when it does, they know they will lose a valuable competitive advantage. Even now, AT&T executives and engineers are working on new technology initiatives to help the company thrive with or without its not-so-secret weapon.

How To Make a Bluetooth Handgun Handset For Your iPhone
MakeZine's ManaEnergyPotion writes:
How to turn an airsoft handgun and a bluetooth headset into a fun, fully functional handset for your iPhone. Pull the trigger to receive calls and to, um, end them. Listen through the barrel, and talk into the grip. I think everyone has made the thumb and forefinger gun-to-the-head sign when someone unpleasant shows up on their caller ID....

Zamfir 2.0: The Enigmatic Appeal of Ocarina
ReadWriteWeb's Rick Turoczy says:
The Web is full of examples where developers have built technology for an express purpose, only to have that technology adopted by users or other developers to deliver unforeseen - and often wildly popular - solutions. Flickr - originally a small subset of functionality in a much
larger game - comes to mind. As does YouTube, which had its humble beginnings in the world of online dating. And now, the iPhone may be joining those ranks.
It's safe to assume that when the folks at Apple finally released the iPhone, the concept of converting it into "something that replicated an ancient ceramic woodwind instrument" probably wasn't on their list of things to do. And yet, the folks at Smule have done just that with Ocarina, an iPhone app that has skyrocketed to becoming the #1 paid app in the world - in one week.
