By following this simple process, I was able to copy 11GB of music from my 5G iPod to my iPod classic without missing a beat. No re-ripping of CDs. No hunting through multiple DVD back-ups, and, most importantly, no repurchasing of songs bought through the iTunes store for music I forgot to back-up or lost in my accidental hard drive wipe-out last year. Anyone upgrading an iPod should download and use this program. It's free, after all. It's also worthwhile if you have a lot of music on your iPod that you've never backed up.

Seems I have more time for watching movies when I'm not actually near my DVD player, so, what to do? Get some honest use out of my iPod classic and iPhone, that's what to do. Trouble is, I don't use iTunes for buying movies. I want the extras, I want the 5.1 surround sound. I want the relative lack of compression, and, yes, I want the DVD sitting comfortably in my collection. Converting store-bought DVDs to the iPod isn't as convenient as purchasing the movie straight from the iTunes store, but it's also something that should intimidate you at all. It's mostly pretty easy, and even better, it's free with HandBrake.

Let's say you want to add an album's publication year to each track in iTunes, or that you want to change the genre to something a little more accurate, or even that you want to add artwork. For a long time, I actually did this field by field, track by track for a whole album. Oh, foolish me, as this can easily be addressed in one fell swoop.

Do you really want to sit and watch music videos at YouTube all day? No! You want to watch them on your iPod all day. Although YouTube doesn't allow you to directly download videos from their site, there are numerous ways to get around this. My favorite, at least for now, is as simple as copying and pasting a URL, and it's free.

The iPod is a convenient place to store and preview photos, videos, and movies, but that tiny 320 x 240 or 176 x 132 display leaves much to be desired
