Herodotus 1.3 Bookmark Search Utility [OS 10.2 up]
Stop wasting time managing bookmarks and sifting through history menus trying to guess when you viewed a web site. Herodotus makes it easy to find web pages you've viewed and lost track of. With Herodotus you can search the history and bookmarks of many popular web browsers by title, address, or content. Herodotus now also has the ability to archive your history so that you are no longer limited to the date range of your browser. Search results can be opened in your default browser or saved as an Internet Location File. Supported browsers: Safari, Internet Explorer, OmniWeb, Netscape / Mozilla, Firefox, Camino and Opera.
N ew in Herodotus 1.3 For Mac OS X
A new Archive option stores browser history entries to a database even after your browser has forgotten them. Title and date information are automatically updated over time should they change. The database can be set to remember your history for 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year.
Startup time has been dramatically reduced and a startup progress bar is now in place. Opening new search windows happens instantly instead of after a long pause. The Reload button is also accompanied by a progress bar.
Herodotus now soft highlights sites that share the same domain as the selected web site.
Mozilla based browsers now include Date and Title information.
Camino 0.8 bookmarks can now be imported.
Dates are now shown for bookmarks when available. The date is that of your last visit to the site.
Dates are much more accurate for all browsers.
Herodotus now finds Mozilla based browser's history and bookmark files even more reliably.
You can now open history and bookmark files manually. This is useful if Herodotus can't find the file in it's default location or if you'd like to open files from another user's folder or from across the network on another computer.
The "Both" search option has been changed to "Either" and a true "Both" option has been added. Results returned for "Both" will contain the search phrase in both the title and address. Results returned for "Either" may contain the search phrase in either the title or address.
HTML escape sequences are now removed from URLs and titles that contain them.
Moved the cache folder from username/Preferences to username/Caches.
All references to Firebird have been changed to Firefox.
System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.2 or higher
Broadband connection recommended for content searches

Mozilla Thunderbird 0.7.1 Email Client [OS X]
Mozilla Thunderbird is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. Our goal is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail application using the XUL user interface language. Our intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firefox (or another stand alone browser) as their primary browser and wants a mail client based on mozilla that "plays nice" with the browser. In addition, by focusing solely on stand alone mail, we believe we can make some dents in the overall footprint and performance of the mail client by removing components and chrome we don't need. On top of that, the UI becomes much cleaner as a stand alone application as opposed to being part of the mozilla suite.
In addition to the feature set found in Mozilla Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird has several new features and improvements to make your mail and new experience better. Highlights include:
The ability to customize your toolbars the way you want them. Choose View / Toolbars / Customize inside any window.
UI extensions can be added to Mozilla Thunderbird to customize your experience with specific features and enhancements that you need. Support for extensions. Extensions allow you to add features particular to your needs such as offline mail support. A full list of available extensions can be found here.
A new look and feel. Thunderbird also supports a large number of downloadable themes which alter the appearance of the client.
An addressing sidebar for mail compose which makes it easy and convenient to add address book contacts to emails.
Online help includes a FAQ, tips and tricks and other useful information.
Simplified preferences UI and menus.
Footprint and performance improvements.
System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.0 or higher

SideTrack 0.9 Advanced Trackpad Driver For PowerBook/iBook [OS 10.2 up]
SideTrack is a replacement driver for the trackpad (touchpad) found on Apple PowerBooks and iBooks. It brings many of the advanced trackpad features found on Windows laptops to MacOS X.
SideTrack supports these features:
Vertical scrolling at left or right edge of pad.
Horizontal scrolling at top or bottom edge of pad.
Map hardware button to left or right click.
Map trackpad taps to no action, left click, left click drag (with or without drag lock), or right click.
Map trackpad corner taps to mouse buttons 1-6 or simulated keystrokes.
Compatible with uControl, including uControl's scroll emulation.
SideTrack is fully multiuser aware, different users on the same PowerBook can have different settings depending on their needs.
NOTE: SideTrack is presently a public beta. As a beta release SideTrack may contain bugs and could potentially cause a kernel panic. Please exercise appropriate caution when testing SideTrack and be sure to read the FAQ for information on how to disable SideTrack if it causes problems.
New in this version:
[BETA] Extended beta expiration to November 30, 2004.
[FEATURE] Reintroduce optional off-axis scroll zone checks. Finger motions which are perpendicular to the scroll zone are interpreted as mouse motion when the "Allow mouse motion to begin in scroll areas" switch is active.
[BUG] Corrected conflict with "Ignore While Typing" for applications that use continuously held auto-repeating keys (i.e. non-modifier keys). For example, PhotoShop requires the spacebar to be held continuously during some operations. Previously the auto-repeating key would block any attempt at mouse motion. Fix is to allow sufficient trackpad motion to always override the "Ignore While Typing" setting.
[BUG] Fix installation problem on machines where incorrect clock setting has put kernel extension cache modification date far in the future.
[BUG] Added default calibration for April 2004 PowerBooks/iBooks.
[BUG] Fix handling of virtual button state when corner taps are used while drag is in progress.
[BUG] Fix pref load handling for users logging in to the GUI as root.
[BUG] "Ignore trackpad when mouse is present" no longer detects the Griffin PowerMate as an external mouse.

Unsanity Releases Labels X 1.6
Unsanity LLC has announced Labels X 1.6, a haxie that adds and customizes labels functionality in Mac OS X. This update adds Mac OS X 10.3 Panther compatibility.
Labels X enhances Apple's file labeling features in Mac OS X. This means that, not only can you apply various color tints to file or folder icons, and sort the files by label, but also you have an option of applying color tints to either an icon or its name or both. This gives you more freedom and options in organizing your files. Additionally, Labels X shares file label information with Mac OS 9. So, no matter where you label your files - you will see the labels in both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X (file labeling is a built-in feature in Mac OS 9).
New in version 1.6:
- Made Labels X function with Panther
- Removed the Labels X "Label" Finder menu item in Panther
- Labels X will now modify the stripes shown in the Finder and open/save dialog boxes while running in Panther.
- Added options to specify whether or not to draw the name stripes or the icons with labels.
- Now makes the ~/bin/ folder invisible when the preference pane is first opened.
- Now sets label colors and names if set via the Finder.
- Now resets the label names to their proper label names assuming the user has not customized them before installing Labels X. If they have, only the unchanged label names are fixed. This means that Yellow is no longer Pink. Pink is now "In Progress".
- Added a "Relaunch Finder" button.
Labels X is priced at $10
Labels X 1.6 is available for download at:

Butler 4.0b15 Launcher, Bookmark Manager [OS 10.2 up]
A file launcher.
You can access applications and any other kind of document by browsing fully customizable system-wide menus, pressing hot keys, clicking hot corners, or entering abbreviations. Butler will learn from your habits and remember what you want a certain abbreviation to do (e.g., enter "ab" to launch "Address Book").
A bookmark manager.
Butler offers you a way to manage your bookmarks without depending on a certain browser. In contrary to a browser's bookmark collection, Butler's bookmarks are always accessible through its system-wide menus, hot keys, etc. And you'll certainly become addicted to accessing bookmarks by entering abbreviations. Butler also lets you access the bookmarks of all major browsers.
Adding files or URLs from your browser to Butler's configuration is stunningly easy: Just drag them to the active screen corner (default: top left), see Butler's main window open, and drop your items somewhere whithin your configuration.
  A web search utility.
Butler's predecessor "Another Launcher" was the first application that let you search the web from the menu bar. But if your menu bar is too crowded for an input field, you can also use hot keys to pop up dedicated web search windows. Butler supports a large number of search engines by default, but you are not restricted to those you can easily add your own search engines.
  A pasteboard extension.
Butler lets you access items you have previously stored in your pasteboard, effectively turning your pasteboard into a stack. You can also take a snapshot of your current pasteboard and keep it for good. This feature is particularly useful for text snippets you need to enter on a regular basis.
  And so much more...
You can use Butler to simulate keystrokes, move and copy files, control iTunes, access the system preferences, change the current user, and so on. But Butler really shines when it comes to customizing its behavior. Is your menu bar too crowded? Use Butler's docklet! Do you want a menu for each mounted volume? Do you want a menu to pop up when you press a certain hot key? Do you want all running applications in your menu bar? Or do you prefer doing things with your keyboard only? Whatever kind of interface you prefer, your Butler is at your service.
New in this version:
Butler is capable of displaying track information from iTunes radio stations now. If there is no such information, Butler will display the radio station's name instead.
You can now use the abbreviations window to go to non-bookmarked web sites. Example: Enter "myfavoritewebsite", and Butler will turn this into a "http://www.myfavoritewebsite.com/" URL match to your query. This will only work if the "Only find direct configuration members" setting in your "Abbreviations" preferences is not checked. Moreover, Butler will always add this URL match at the very bottom of the abbreviation window's matches list. Thus, you might not see it if you have not checked the "Allow scrolling to low-rank matches" setting in your "Abbreviations" preferences.
Adjusted Butler to Firefox 0.9's new bookmarks file location.
Fixed a bug where you couldn't use spaces when typing a query for searching the web from the abbreviations window.
Fixed a bug where Butler failed to respect your "Use Path Finder instead of the Finder" preference under certain rare conditions.
The abbreviation window's currently selected match is now highlighted more prominently in order to emphasize the fact that you can use the arrow keys to change your selection without having to change the keyboard focus first.
Since version 4.0b14, the abbreviations window only remembers your previous query if you have not checked the "Expire queries after (n) milliseconds" setting in your "Abbreviations" preferences. You can now override this by using the hidden preference "Always Remember Queries". To do so, quit Butler, open the Terminal, type 'defaults write de.petermaurer.Butler "Always Remember Queries" "yes"' (without the surrounding quotation marks), and press [return].
Available languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean. Please note that the user guide has not been localized yet.
System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.2 or higher
