Apple today announced that downloads of OS X Mountain Lion have exceeded three million in four days, making it the most successful OS X release in Apple's history

As it announced it would in its third-fiscal-quarter financials report press release yesterday, Apple launched OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion this morning.

With Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), it's a whole new ball game. It offers new algorithms to both interpret raw images and to process them, including the ability to work with 32-bit HDR images. ACR continues to amaze photographers who've learned that raw images will lead to significantly better results than letting the camera interpret what's been gathered. Bridge, however, has stalled. This incredibly useful application has barely had any adaptations or improvements beyond upgrading to 64 Bit. Regardless of what hasn't happened to Bridge for CS6, Adobe Camera Raw is reason enough to update your Photoshop.

This is Illustrator, the overhaul version. After 25 years (yup, it's been out that long now), Illustrator is having the first major internal overhaul since, well, ever. It's not that there haven't been internal updates, there have. But this release is now 64-bit native and is one of the applications from Adobe that is getting the Mercury update engine to better speed things up. By that, I mean that not only is AI getting access to as much memory as you've got (that's where the 64-bit comes in) but it is also accessing hardware acceleration via OpenCL. And while all that was being done, the AI team also completely rewrote the Live Trace feature (now called Image Trace) and introduces a new Pattern Maker that is as much fun to use as the results are to behold. So sit back and be ready to enjoy Illustrator CS6.

On Monday, April 23rd, Adobe made a double announcement regarding Creative Suite 6 (no surprise) and the Creative Cloud (also no surprise). There was no surprise because Adobe has been presenting us with sneak peaks of upcoming features for some time, and the Creative Cloud was informally announced back in October at the Adobe MAX in Los Angeles. Now that details are coming in, this cloud has a very silver lining.

FileMaker has just released the latest version of FileMaker Pro. With this new release, FileMaker dives deeper to make it easier to create portable device layouts for FileMaker Go, and now provides FileMaker Go for free. They also realize that not every database creator is a viable designer, and now provide a number of ways to help in that regard. In addition, there are new chart types and enhanced container fields, and you now have the ability to create layouts to make them accessible to screen readers. In the grand scheme, there is a lot more to FileMaker than just a pretty face, but in this release, the developers focused on helping you create a pretty face. And, as usual, there's a lot more there.
