Review - StuffIt Deluxe 1111181

The big news with this version of StuffIt Deluxe is that it now is Universal. Besides this great addition, there are a few other new enhancements, but otherwise, when most long-time users open up this new version of StuffIt Deluxe, they may wonder, "Where's the beef?" as there are fewer items in the StuffIt folder than in past iterations. The sad story is that for a program that's been around as long as StuffIt has been, it's surprising how not fully developed this program seems to be.

Review - Drive Genius v1.58068

No matter how many functions ProSoft packs into their disk utility software, it's not a Drive "Genius." It's useful, certainly, and it has the ability to save the day for many of those experiencing drive problems (or, more importantly, to prevent drive problems), but it's missing capabilities it should include, and there are some functions it doesn't perform quite as well as competing stand-alone programs. That's not to say I'm down on Drive Genius. It does a lot of good, offering a slew of utilities divided into three distinct categories: maintenance, management and optimization.

Review - DiskWarrior 430422

I've heard it said that Adobe's release of the Universal version of the Photoshop Beta is going to help Apple sell a lot of the new Intel-based computers. While I do not disagree with that statement, I think that the Universal release of DiskWarrior 4 will sell more. For those who've found that the best way to provide general maintenance and repair of their computer by DiskWarrior will now be able to obtain a new Intel-based Mac, and feel safe.

Review - ReadIris 1114049

There are several pleasures with this release of ReadIris OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software, starting with some nice improvements coupled with the fact that Iris Software released these updates on the Mac before the PC. That notwithstanding, there are a few glitches in an otherwise outstanding program.

Review - StuffIt Deluxe v102274

StuffIt Deluxe has become such an important part of my Mac usage that when I get a new system and it's not on there, I get mad at Apple for neglecting to include it before I remember that, oh yeah, it's not part of the operating system. On the other hand, StuffIt Deluxe is the type of program I've always been happy buying once, then letting the next two or three major upgrades slide by before bothering to update. So, that's how I'll approach this review. It's tricky, because a lot may depend upon what version you currently have. Do the new features justify the cost of the upgrade? That's why I'm here.

Review - Aquazone Seven Seas Deluxe9983

There are 40 different types of fish from which to choose, including your typical goldfish (which I've learned don't have to actually be gold...who knew?), some of those neontetra fish I always thought looked pretty cool, angelfish, guppies, etc. They get a bit more exotic, too, as you can plce jellyfish, sea turtles, and even a shark in your tank. What types of fish you place in your tank will be up to you and the tank you choose, and how many fish you put in will be mostly up to you and your graphics card/processor speed.

Review - Toast 73746

Give Roxio credit. The easier Apple has made it to burn DVDs and CDs on your Mac, the more reasons Roxio has given us to spend the extra money to purchase Toast. Toast 7 is no exception, providing many new features that'll make you wonder what you ever thought was so great about Toast 6. If you didn't think Toast 6 was all that great, Toast 7 may have you singing a different tune.
