Domain registrations, which should be a simple affair, can sometimes become a problem due to some questionable business practices.

The fact that Google and Verizon felt that they needed to huddle together to secretly craft an Internet plan that we might all want to follow is - frankly - insulting. Evidently, I missed the meeting at which the these two behemoths formally became "The Internet". Now that I know, at least we can stop working so damn hard around here. Hey, last one out of the datacenter please lock the doors and turn out the lights and the edge routers. Google and Verizon have it all covered.

Here's a bit of good news for website hosts and publishers from the Texas Court of Appeals.

There have been many times over the years when we've had to call a customer to explain that their co-located server has crashed and won't boot due to what appears to be a disk failure.  Sometimes, the customer will inform us that this is impossible.  Why?

This is a bit of a blast from the past to be sure. In 2010 we often assume that by know everyone already knows the ins and outs of domain name registration, but that isn't always true so it can't hurt to put a little "refresher" out there for good measure.

Foursquare is a startup that is likely subject to the same kind of technical growing pains that Twitter has experienced over the last two years, so that's not terribly surprising. What struck me as interesting is that it appears that the Foursquare outage is the result of a power failure in the Amazon EC2 (cloud) facility in northern Virginia.

The latest estimates I've seen, and the statistics we review every day on our own mail systems and the filters run by our partners at MXLogic, tell us that at least 80% of all email is now junk mail. That's right. EIGHTY PERCENT. Its likely more than that. We handle mail for some domains for which over 90% of all incoming messages are spam. Its completely ridiculous at this point.

Before you go putting your life savings into Vonage stock, keep in mind that last month a high court called into question the ability of the FCC to impose its will when it comes to Internet services.

So you're in the business of creating or delivering content and services on the web.  Maybe you publish a website, or maybe you're in the business of hosting websites for your customers  Maybe you host an application that runs on the web.  Either way, you should care about net neutrality.  Here's why.
