One of the slickest new features in Mac OS 10.5 Leopard is Quick Look, which as its name suggests is a quick way to take a peek at what's in a file without opening the file, switching Finder views or opening the file's corresponding application (and it also does slide shows)

You say you didn't know Preview has photo editing tools? Leopard's version does, and look out Photoshop! Well, perhaps Photoshop Elements and other consumer-oriented bitmap photo-correction editor applications anyway. Something to praise about Leopard

Alternating back and forth between OS 10.5.1 Leopard and OS 10.4.11 Tiger on the same computer, as I've been doing lately, is a study in contrasts between a mature, well sorted out and refined operating system, and a young, rough-around-the-edges, still pretty buggy one. As a longtime and regular iListen user, the program's compatibility was an important element in my transition from OS 10.4 Tiger to OS 10.5 Leopard, and after downloading and installing the iListen 1.8 update I'm happy to report that it works just great with the new cat

One thing that Leopard has done for me is that it got me experimenting with using reduced processor speed in the Energy Saver Preference panel to try and keep my PowerBook's raucous cooling fans quiet. It's an almost absurdly simple workaround, and it works pretty well. It's not all sweetness and light, however. Email performance (at least on dial-up) is still big-time horrible in Leopard..... and no Windowshade X on the horizon yet
