Eye Candy 6For many years, Alien Skin's Eye Candy has been one of the most used plugins for creating eye-catching effects for image design enhancement. This current version continues to build on previous versions to provide even more effects and greater variety to make your designs "work." The catch is that working with Eye Candy is at its best if you have Photoshop CS4. If you have Photoshop CS3, it's good. If you have Fireworks CS4 or Photoshop Elements, it's okay. This is partly due to the fact that the amount of features has fully passed the inharent user-interface design limitations.

Review: Bad Mojo: The Roach Game Redux830

It's been a long time since I've played a truly different and unique game. After a while, they fit into tidy categories, and I'm rarely surprised about what they offer, no matter how well they deliver it. That's not to say they're bad, just predictable. While Bad Mojo is an adventure game, it is unlike one I've ever played, putting you in the body of a cockroach and forcing you to see the world from a very different point-of-view.

Review: Deep Trouble 2602

I remember it was just a few years ago, on a different website, for a different boss, in a different city that I reviewed CodeBlender Software's two earlier titles, Epsilon Tahari and Deep Trouble. I commended both titles for demonstrating a functional, solid knowledge of 3D gaming engines; a shareware developer that can implement 3D well was rare indeed. However, as any bargain bin gamer will tell you, pretty 3D does not a game make. Enter Deep Trouble 2, an amazing improvement over the original that looks better and, more importantly, plays better.

Review: Chessmaster 9000815

Before I began using all of Chessmaster 9000's amazing features, I gave it a simple test. I pitted Chessmaster 9000 against the Apple Chess program. I'm sure there must be a way to pit the machine against itself (and learning that the only winning move is not to play), but I did by switching applications ("straight hood," as Li'l Kim might say). The result: Chessmaster 9000 (C9) put Apple Chess in checkmate in 58 moves. Frankly, the game was over a lot quicker, but Apple Chess decided to be immature about the whole matter, limping along after it only had a pawn and a rook left.
