Cool Mac Gear

image With the level of satisfaction I'd been enjoying with MacSpeech Dictate 1.3, the developer's announcement that they'd found a way to squeeze out up to 20% better voice recognition accuracy out of version 1.5 sounded almost too good to be true, but having tried it I can affirm that Dictate is now even more impressive than it had been, and the bar was already set pretty high

• ViaVoice Training trouble
• Working in Panther after reinstall Michael Dawson Version: 3.0.2, 10/16/2004 11:46PM PST Upgrading to Panther I found ViaVoice would not open. I tried the uninstaller but it failed. Using the find control I located and trashed all files, reinstalled ViaVoice and used the updater (this page). I had to retrain it and found to begin with it would stick on some word and not let me proceed. Quitting the set up assistant and restarting it let me continue with the story I was reading. In time the problem ceased - presumably it got used to my voice. More Info

1.5GHz Apple Powerbook 17"299

If you're used to using laptops as a satellite—taking notes, collecting data, having on-the-go e-mail and web access, but then bringing the real work back to a desktop to crunch the data—the 17" Powerbook will change your perceptions. The 1.5GHz processor combined with the crystal-clear, gigantic screen obliterates the shortcomings of all the laptops that came before it. Granted, we now have the G5 PowerMac and iMac with greater processors, but after weeks of putting together images with Photoshop or Illustrator, designing DTP projects with Quark or InDesign, or designing websites using GoLive, I've been amazed at how well this laptop handles itself.

Mariner Software releases Desktop Poet v1.0297

Mariner Software today announced the release of Desktop Poet 1.0, the only "fridge poetry" application for the desktop of the Macintosh.
