Legal US Music Downloads Beat CD Sales Legal US Music Downloads Beat CD Sales Kelly McNeill of OSViews says: I've received a lot of feedback from osViews readers (my site) asking about the music download survey that we've been conducting over the past few weeks, saying that osViews readership must be skewed in one particular direction to get the results we did. The primary reason given is not necessarily the fact that iTunes has significantly surpassed its competitors, but that the results show legal digital downloads surpassing even CD sales. I must admit that even I thought this a was a bit peculiar, but now, according to a BBC World news report, it seems the survey is correct. Apple Store Ginza to Open in Tokyo on November 30 Apple’s first retail store in Japan will open in Tokyo’s Ginza shopping district on Sunday, November 30 at 10:00 a.m. This will be Apple’s 73rd retail store, and the first outside the U.S. The Apple Store Ginza will feature five floors where customers can shop for and learn about the latest Apple products and solutions as well as visit the popular Genius Bar to ask the Mac “Genius” questions and receive service. The Apple Store Ginza will host more than 400 customer events each month including a Studio Series of hands-on training classes. “We opened our first retail store just over two years ago and have since hosted more than 23 million visitors,” said Ron Johnson, Apple senior vice president of Retail. “We are thrilled to be bringing the best personal computer buying experience to Japan when we open our first Apple retail store in Tokyo on November 30.” The hands-on Apple store experience provides visitors access to the latest Mac computer systems including the PowerBook G4, iMac and eMac running innovative digital lifestyle applications like iPhoto, iDVD , iTunes and iMovie, as well as Mac OS X version 10.3 “Panther,” Apple’s next generation operating system. At the Apple store, knowledgeable sales people are available to help customers learn about the new ultra-portable iPods and iChat AV and iSight digital video cameras for video conferencing with friends and family.

"I knew it was a video problem so really didn't want to to sink money into a CPU upgrade especially with heat, battery and technical issues. But in 10.3, WOW. The screen redraws quickly, no Radeon 9800, but it is now certainly acceptable. Expose works pretty darn good, although not perfectly silky. Auto Hide Dock looks great as does the magnification. (Animated apps I have turned off). If 10.3 would just allow the DVD player to work, I would be overly satisfied...."

Panther Bitten By Another Data Damaging Bug The Register's Tony Smith reports:
"The FileVault problem follows an earlier clash between Panther and version 1.0.3 of Oxford Semiconductor's 800MBps FireWire interface chip. That bug lead to data being damaged on external hard drives connected to the host Mac after Panther had been installed on the host system...."
