Prefling 2.0 Pref Panes Access From The Dock

[OS X 10.3 up]

Prefling does one job: It lets you open system preference panes. Fast.

Sitting in your Dock, it shows you a menu with all the preference panes installed and active. It's the ideal replacement for the "System Preferences" item that's in your Dock by default.

New in this version:
• Built for Mac OS X 10.3, fixing a problem where some panes were listed twice.

System requirements:
• Mac OS X 10.3 or higher

Prefling is freeware

ScreenShot Plus 1.0.7 Enhancement for Apple's built-in Screen Capture Tool

[OS X 10.2 up]

ScreenShot Plus uses Apple's tool to do the capturing, but allows you to scale the capture and select a format, jpeg, tiff, psd, and more!

ScreenShot Plus is activated by pressing Shift-Apple-2, You will then have the option of selecting a region on screen, toggle to window select mode by pressing the space-bar. A window will appear showing the captured area. From here you can scale the image and select a format to save in. ScreenShot Plus now uses Quartz scaling for a smoother result.

New in this version:
• Fixed a problem where setting launch at login would cause multiple listings in login items

System requirements:
• Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

ScreenShot Plus is $5.00 shareware
Unregistered copies will save images with a watermark.

Whiteout 0.1 Replaces The Brushed Metal Texture In Panther With Aqua Pinstripes

[OS X 10.3 up]

Since it's debut inside of iTunes, the brushed metal interface texture has grown to skin just about every iapp that Apple has made.

With the debut of Panther, the Finder, among many other applications, has adopted the brushed metal texture.

Enter Whiteout. Whiteout replaces a system resource file with a modified version. The metal texture is changed to the original Aqua pinstripe texture. Included in the device image, is a double clickable shell script that will restore your system back to it's original state.

Whiteout is freeware

System requirements:
• Mac OS 10.3

ASCII/edit Table, Diagram, Graphics Editor

[OS X 10.1 up]

ASCII/edit is a WYSIWYG editor for tables, diagrams, or simple graphics made of ASCII characters for Mac OS X. It lets you arrange text on a page, as with a layout software; align and indent paragraphs, like in a word processor; and add lines and rectangles, as in a drawing application. The output, however, is simple ASCII text, which you can include in e-mails, newsgroups, or source code.

If you need to do anything similar, ASCII/edit will greatly simplify these time-consuming and nerve-racking tasks. It comes with a reasoned, easy-to-use, and Mac-like user interface and an extensive collection of useful little goodies.

ASCII/edit is Shareware (10,-- Euros or 12,-- US-$). It requires Mac OS X 10.1 or later, and is available in English.

PandoCalendar 6.0.3 Small Christian Calendar

[OS X 10.1 up]

This useful Mac-only program places a fully functional calendar on your desktop. The look is completely customizable. You can change the calendar's font, size, and the colors used to draw the calendar; the background can be entirely transparent, so you can still see your desktop picture; you can center the current week (so you are always able to look back and ahead a full month at a time). PandoCalendar can display the numerical number of the weeks of the year, display the calendar with European style weeks (Monday being the first day and Sunday being the last), assign notes to any day of the year by clicking on the day in the calendar, and set alarms to remind you of time sensitive events. You can also have PandoCalendar automatically plot the days you work. Great for people who don't have a Monday-Friday work schedule.

New in this version:
• Fixed a bug that would cause standard style frames to draw improperly on Mac X 10.3.
• Fixed a rare bug that could cause the calendar text to display in a distorted color.
• Fixed a bug that prevented the import notes/appointments dialog from working.

System Requirements:
Mac OS X 10.1 or greater

Version 5.7.6
Requires Mac OS 9.1 and CarbonLib 1.3.1 or greater. You can download CarbonLib from Apple
Version 5.5.6
Requires Mac OS 7.5 or greater and Appearance Manager 1.0 or greater.

PandoCalendar is freeware

ThermographX 0.9.1 Temperature Monitoring Utility

[OS X 10.2.4 up]

ThermographX monitors the various temperature sensors inside your modern Macintosh G4 or G5.

• Records maximum and minimum temperatures.
• Shows temperature records over time, using a zoomable display so you can analyze short-term or long-term.
• Shows individual sensor temperatures on models that have them.

ThermographX compatibility is still being determined. So far, it is known to provide accurate sensor readings on these models:
• 12" & 17" PowerBook G4.
• "Aluminum" 15" PowerBook G4.
• "Mirror Door" G4.
• Power Macintosh G5.

Note: Motorola's MPC7450CE/D Rev 5 errata indicates "The thermal assist unit (TAU) is no longer supported on the MPC7450, MPC7451, or MPC7441.". Because of this, you will not be able to measure the junction temperature on any system with these processors. At current, this includes the "Gigabit" PowerBook G4 and the "2001 Quicksilver" G4's.

New in this version:
• Optimized drawing performance.
• Fix bug storing data that would cause data to be presented incorrectly.
• Fixed restoring of short-term sensor list.
• Added identification of iBook G4.

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.2.4 or later; requires a Macintosh with compatible thermal sensors (so far, these have been found on the Aluminum 12", 15" and 17" PowerBooks, the "mirror-door" G4 and the G5, and some G3 PowerBooks and G4 Cube models)

ThermographX is $7 shareware

HimmelBar 1.0 Launches Applications and Utilities from the Menu Bar.

[OS X 10.2 up]

HimmelBar is a little faceless application that provides an icon in the menu bar to quickly access your installed applications by scanning standard locations such as local, user and developer applications, and also utilities (network applications will be handled in a future release).

HimmelBar doesn't just add all applications to a menu, it displays separate menus for each locations and allows you to customize menu contents and scanning behavior to best fit your needs.

New in this version:
• Small bug fixes and adds french localization. If you want to have HimmelBar localized in your language, send an e-mail to the author.

System requirements:
HimmelBar requires Mac OS X 10.2 or better and should work fine with Panther.
Any computer capable of running Mac OS X 10.2 should be able to run HimmelBar.
