WiebeTech Introduces Three New FireWire 800 / USB2 Storage Devices

WiebeTech has introduced three new FireWire 800 / USB2 storage product lines, including a new FireWire 800 fanless desktop storage enclosure, a removable drive desktop storage system with single or dual bays, and a plug-and-play hot swappable dual drive FireWire 800 hardware based RAID. WiebeTech also cuts prices on select existing FireWire 400 products.

Customer shipments begin the first week of November. Check their website for latest shipping information.

The new DesktopGB+800 provides dual FireWire 800 ports (400 compatible) and a USB 2.0 port utilizing WiebeTech's popular DesktopGB fanless enclosure. It provides transfer rates of approximately 50MB per second and is an excellent choice for anyone requiring high speed external storage. More product information can be found at:

The FireWire RAID Speed Bar Tops 60MB/s with First FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 Hardware System

FirewireDirect.com, Inc has announced the progression of their Vanguard FireWire RAID system to include the new FireWire 800/1394b standard and the latest, faster USB 2.0 in a new combo interface capable of topping 60MB/s in an easy to use external FireWire system, making this the optimal storage and redundancy system available for digital video and audio producers.

The Vanguard III FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 RAID System features an independent hardware controller to provide RAID levels 0 (striping) and 1 (mirroring), so the RAID functions are performed without draining precious CPU resources, and now breaks new performance barriers with the inclusion of the new connection technologies.

With the addition of FireWire 800, the system will demonstrate a dramatic increase in speed when in RAID 0, providing speeds well in excess of the legacy FireWire external storage drives widely used for digital audio and video.

At RAID Level 1, the system sets up a simple to operate drive mirror with a unique auto-rebuilding function and a host of security features designed to protect critical data, including convenient additional drive "Swap-Kits" for use as spares or backups.

Daniel Jackson, FirewireDirect's Chief Technical Officer, says that like all FirewireDirect's new 800mbps FireWire products, the difference in performance opens up new possibilities.

"Our previous Vanguard FireWire RAID brought stability, performance and affordability to desktop RAID. The new FireWire 800 Vanguard has all of this and an amazing performance level with speeds approaching that of SCSI while maintaining the ease of use of FireWire."

The Vanguard III has a solid aluminum case and a host of diagnostic and security features. It is the first RAID product and the fourth major storage product from FirewireDirect to employ the new high speed standard.

Partial list of features includes:

• Hardware RAID - A single FireWire (Oxford 922) bridge to an independent controller that improves system performance by providing a dedicated hardware controller for the RAID process. Unlike software RAID, it will not drain precious CPU and memory resources.

• Auto Rebuilding ˆ A unique feature that will allow full access to one volume while rebuilding the RAID 1 mirror in another in the event of a drive failure.

• Plug and Play ˆ Hot swap FireWire support means the RAID system can be removed from the host machine without restarting.

• True Cross Platform Support ˆ Will operate on any computer that supports USB or FireWire storage.

• Backwards Compatibility ˆ Will operate in systems still supporting legacy /1394a and USB 1.1 (Requires "bilingual" FireWire cable ˆ available separately - to connect to legacy FireWire).

• Solid Construction - Built to last with a rigid, durable aluminum casing, locking drive bays, powerful cooling fans and a unique suspended design hard drive tray that minimizes hard disk vibration

• Hot Swap Kits - For easy replacement or exchange of drives, FirewireDirect offers these low priced replacement drive/tray combos. Available separately.

• Configurations ˆ Preformatted for you in Level 1 or 0 for easy operation out of the box in configurations up to 500GB.

X-Plane 7.20 Flight Simulator

X-Plane is an advanced general-aviation flight sim. With hardware-accelerated texture-mapped graphics, dynamic speech synthesis, full-planet terrain-mapped scenery, helicopters, and the widest range of airplanes available in flight simulation, X-Plane will keep your eyes popping out for hours.

New features for 7.20 since 7.15:

Pressurization system is operative and functional.
Open Jason Chandlers Malibu that comes with X-Plane 7.16.
Twiddle the lower-left knob to set the altitude you want the cabin at (the air pressure in the cabin, or how it "feels" in the cabin...
this is typically about 8,000 feet in an airliner flying at 36,000 feet)... the top digital tape will scroll to the cabin altitude you want.
The tape below will scroll as well... this is showing the maximum altitude the airplane can be and still give you the cabin altitude
you desire.
Now that you have set the desired cabin altitude, simply turn on the bleed air and the cabin will begin to go to that alitude
if you are higher than that. Twiddle the very lower-left knob with no label to get there faster or slower.
Then climb above 12,500 or so and turn off the bleed air, or set a cabin altitude above 12,500... you will slowly black out!
This is a serious occurence in the real airplane that you must avoid if you want to live.
NOTE: You must be flying an airplane that HAS a pressurization differential in the SYSTEMS screen in Plane-Maker for this effect to occurr.
Otherwise, X-Plane assumes that the designer simply did not include the pressurization systems in the aircraft, adn the pressurization system is assumed to
be automated.
Trim speed is now controllable in Plane-Maker controls screen... enter the trim speed in ratio to default.
In Plane-Maker engine screen tab 3, set the exhaust ratio now... 1.0 for default, and more or less per plane to get the exhaust trails perfect for each particular craft!
New artificial stability option: Joystick simply sets pitch and roll. Easy!
Just move the stick to set the desired hovering attitude. Set up the constants in Plane-Maker Artificial Stability screen.

Refinements for 7.20 since 7.15:

Sunset default condition... more realistic for So-Cal.
Contrails now form a bit BEHIND the engines, as in reality.
The glider winch is slower and takes the local wind into account to give a perfect winch in all conditions.
The towplane in the glider tow option now moves with the wind as well for better tows in windy conditions.
When you enter a displaced mass for a blimp or dirrigible, you now must also enter the displacement adjustment ratio.
This is how much the lift control knowb can add or subtract from the displacement mass you enter.
Do this to get the blimps and dirigible climb and descent rates from gas density control just right.
Prop governors and engine idling speeds more finely tuned.
Better mouse-grabbing of the throttle, porop, and mixture controls when non-stadard size controls are used.
Volume of the bodies (fuselage, etc) is displayed in Plane-Maker so you can see what the internal volume of your craft is.

Bug fixes for 7.20 since 7.15:
ITT digital outputs on the panel are scaled 0->700 not 0->1.
You still get morse code on the localizers even if you are not in the right location to pick up their signal, as in reality.
No more spinning on the runway when the flight mode is set to unrealisitc for easiness.
Speed, heading, and altitude for other planes is preserved from how you set them up in the settings menu.
Autopilot is more robust at following the glideslope.
Hydraulically-boosted helos keep their control authority even if the engine is shut down by hooking their pumps up to the rotor, not engine, side of the transmission.
Changing the language does not wipe the airports out of the menus.
Fuel flow is correct whether you are using an IOS or not.
Winch and Tow position labelling are now correct in Plane-Maker.
FMS plans load in that first altitude.
Transponder and digital engine instruments handle all sizes better.
Pylon sweep and dihedral correct as you change them in Plane-Maker.
Speedbrakes on the tail contribute only drag, not a sideforce.
Glider tow triggered by brake release, be it by key, pedals, or any other method.
Memory usage tightened a bit, meaning we now use less, and require less as new planes and scenery are loaded.

System requirements:
• Mac OS 9 - OS X

Price increase to $99.99 Scheduled For November 20. Until then You Can Still Get It For $59.99+Shipping.
