Even though Mac OS Classic Mode might reasonably be considered an integral feature of OS X, Apple is nailing OS X purchasers who don't already have a copy of OS 9.x for an extra $19.95 on top of the $129.00 price of the OS 10.3 application if they want an OS 9.2 CD. Apple's OS X Upgrade site burbles:
On said form, "Mac OS 9.2 Upgrade for U.S. Mac OS X v10.3 Retail Software Customers," one is further informed:
As if folks would be lining up to be serially hosed for $19.95 for something that should be included with the OS X package. Not a classy policy, although apparently it pertained to Jaguar as well.
xDock is a utility that gives you access to some unimplemented features of the Dock in Mac OS X. You can also use it to change the settings that you can change as well in the Dock preferences pane in the System Preferences.
xDock version 2 has been rebuilt from scratch and comes with a new inteface that makes it easier to navigate. Also new in version 2.1 -- you can now change the Dock Poof sound that appears when you remove an item from the Dock and it's now compatible with Mac OS 10.3. xDock also allows you to download Dock Poofs directly from the Internet that users have submitted in XDock's Dock Poofs-selection. The application updates instantly when new Dock Poofs have been added.
Features

I found that XDock provides a convenient interface for tailoring the Dock. Most of the features are available in other applications like TinkerTool, but XDock is freeware, so there's no hardship in having it aboard. However, I couldn't get alternate Dock Poofs to load from either the sample folder than downloaded with the application, or from the online source without XDock unexpectedly quitting. Still some bugs to squash I guess.
System requirements:
xDock is freeware
