To tell the truth, I haven't digested it all yet. The one incontrovertible fact is that Apple has dumped a helluva lot of things to consider, all at once, into the editorial machinery. But I can say this: a Windows-compatible version of iTunes is the bee's knees, obviously. Tons o' bucks for Apple, yay team. As for the rest? I don't completely "get" the voice recording feature just implemented for iPods through Belkin, but that sounds like a winner too. If you're looking to make a digital voice recording, it's an expensive and somewhat inelegant way to go (debatable microphone quality, no stereo, etc.), but if you already have an iPod, well hey. Now you also have a dictation device. Apple teaming with AOL to facilitate iTunes Music Store sales is a no-brainer and great for all those AOL subscribers -- the ones who aren't leaving AOL in droves, that is -- but none of that affects yours truly. Neither do the free iTunes codes stuck under Pepsi bottle caps, hah. Put those things on gallons of milk or bulk coffee bins and I'd be sitting pretty, though. The Audible.com arrangement is more interesting. With the continued growth in iPod sales and MP3 players generally, there have to be more and more people listening to audio books and recordings of radio shows, etc. If any of you writers, poets, and performers see some opportunities arising out of this, you're not alone. The key, it seems to me, is that people are getting used to this kind of thing. Food for thought, anyway.
