There’s seemingly no end to small applications to park and retreive snippets of info, and Dejal has just introduced another one, and very nice it is too. Caboodle 1.0b1 is touted as a Mac OS X application to collect random snippets of text or images, such as URLs, email addresses, gifts you’ve received or sent, product serial numbers, recipes, directions to someone’s house, a photo of your pet, or anything else. Caboodle is a tool to help store and organize such random bits of information.
You can arrange the items in an outline-like hierarchy, and include both structured fields and free-form text and pictures in each entry. An inportant feature of Caboodle is that the Services menu is also supported, to quickly add or output an entry. Caboodle puts me in mind a bit of a *very* lightweight analog of DEVONThink. It shares that excellent application’s three-window user interface and toolbar layout, and basic organization structure, but of course has only a fraction of DEVONThink’s power. However, if all you need is a quick place to store bits of information, Caboodle might fit the bill nicely. The current version is a beta release, and a bit bare-bones feature-wise, although what’s there has a very attractive interface and seem to work well. Future versions will add a fast search feature, import/export, and more. Dejal is soliciting feature suggestions. There is an online Caboodle 1.0b1 User Guide, but it’s pretty sparse as well at this point. Caboodle is reasonably intuitive, so you can probably get it working for you just by using and exploring the application. You can go to the User Guide Contents page directly from within the application by selecting the User Guide item from the Help menu or by pressing ?. Dejal is also asking for user feedback regarding User Guide content. System Requirements : Caboodle is released as freeware/donationware For more information, visit: Internal floppy drive and OS X From Eugen Dunlap Hello Charles I just read your article in Applelinks about OS X and floppies; I need to get an internal floppy drive attachment working in X.
