Comments: Spam Filter Killed the Newslist

Monday, October 13, 2003

By Applelinks Senior Editor John H. Farr

Now they've done it and they're making me mad: scores of subscribers to my newslist hosted here at Applelinks didn't receive a notificiation of my latest GRACK column because Earthlink added the domain to its spam filter!

This kind of thing is happening all over the place, in case you haven't noticed. Perfectly legitimate newslists are finding their subscriber lists mangled by the "automatic unsubscribe" that occurs when an address fails because the domain's been blocked by an ISP's spam filter. What I don't understand is how this happens in the first place, of course.

In any event, we here at Applelinks expect to deal with this problem shortly. That's not to say there won't be more problems with your Earthlink spam filtering in the future, but hopefully the domain can be cleared from the spam list and we can all get on with our lives.

[I've personally resubscribed as many of the bumped subscribers as I can. Please stay tuned for future developments.}
