There may be hope yet. An article posted at ZDNet reveals that the most prolific North American spammers operate out of server farms in the suburbs of Beijing. Now, however, the Chinese government has decided to do something, at least domestically, keeping emails from 127 servers from reaching Chinese Internet users. That's the good news. The bad news is that only eight of the 127 are actually in mainland China. Most of the blocked servers are in Taiwan, as it turns out. But spammers operating out of China are at least on notice that they may no longer be allowed to ply their trade unnoticed. What international observers are saying is that the Chinese authorities may be "waking up" to the realization of how much their own lack of oversight is contributing to the worldwide junk email crisis.
