Comments: Million Dollar Domain Name Deal

Tuesday, September 9, 2003

By Applelinks Senior Editor John H. Farr

How come selling that "great" domain name isn't working for you, you may ask? According to CBS Marketwatch, it's certainly working for a Canadian company named Communicate.com (not a bad name in itself): they recently sold four domain names to a private U.S. corporation for a combined $1,000,000.

We can remember, not too long ago, when businesses were reportedly dropping the "dot-com" portion of their names because of the association with the tech collapse. Perhaps the pendulum is swinging back the other way. The domains sold by Communicate.com are reported to be as follows:

  • Automobile.com
  • Exercise.com
  • Body.com
  • Makeup.com

Waking up in the morning and remembering you owned a name like "Body.com" would be a wonderful experience, for sure.Getting someone to give you a quarter of a million dollars for it could be even better. We recently tried to sell Zoozone.com on eBay and got zip, but maybe there's a better way.
