AOL Name Poison for Time Warner?

Monday, August 11, 2003

By Applelinks Senior Editor John H. Farr

What's in a name? Corporate reputation, among other things, especially when "AOL" is dragging down the bottom line. According to Reuters, Time Warner is thinking of effectively hiding its partnership with AOL by making a name change.

While cautioning that any announcement is premature, sources nonetheless say that " the backdrop of federal probes and declining finances at the media company's America Online unit" are driving executives to consider cleaning up the name.

Comments: Since the 2001 merger of the two companies, the corporation's share prices have declined by two thirds. But it isn' just AOL's fault, surely, despite the obvious losses. What has Time Warner done for you lately, hmm?
