Apple yesterday released Mac OS X 10.2.6, which appears to be mainly a bugfix release to address the kernel panics introduced by Mac OS X 10.2.5. There are two versions of the update installer available: Mac OS X 10.2.6 Update updates Mac OS X 10.2.5 to the new version. This document describes how to use this installer. Mac OS X 10.2.6 Update (Combo) updates Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.2.5 to version 10.2.6. You can find out more about the Combo updater here: The updater from 10,2,5 to 10.2.6 is a fairly modest 6 MB, but the combo updater is even bigger than the 10.2.5 combo, at a whopping 86 MB. As usual, I’m planning to wait a few days to make sure nothing disastrous (like the battery damage to iBooks from version 10.2.4 for instance) emerges from this update, but a kind reader sent me a copy of the 10.2.5 combo updater, and that, combined with the 6 MB 10.2.6 updater, should be a workable way to go. New in this version: The 10.2.6 Update als reportedly enhances functionality and improves reliability for: Address Book, AppleScript, Bluetooth, Classic compatibility, Disk Copy, Disk Utility, Finder, Graphics, Help Viewer, iChat, Image Capture, IP Firewall, Kerberos, Mail, OpenGL, Print Center, Rendezvous and Sherlock, as well as incorporating improvements to AFP, Web services, dial up connections over PPP, and Windows file services, as well as audio, disc recording, printing improvements and PC Card, USB, FireWire and SCSI device compatibility enhancements. Click and drag/drop image on desktop to create picture clipping. Graphic converter in OSX has no problem with the file type. Hi Judson; I hadn’t thought of that, but I tried it after receiving your note. Unfortunately, no go. The highlighted PICT images in Word 5.1 files won;t drag out as clippings. I presume because Word 5.1 doesn’t support clippings. I don’t think the clippings feature had been added to the Mac OS yet back in 1993 when I bought the program. Charles
