Blogger Dan Shafer thinks so.
Dan notes:
" I'm a MacFanatic... But there is one point at which I have always been critical of Apple and that is when it creates application software....
"If I'm an independent software developer, it takes a lot to convince me to write an application for the 3%-market-share Macintosh rather than for the 97% behemoth. To do so entails significant risk on my part. But I love the platform so I just do it. Then Apple, in its infinite stupidiy, comes out with a competing product at a lower price point and bundles it, leaving me out in the cold. Is it any wonder that the number of Mac software developers doesn't grow?
"That's what Apple just did. Its new Web browser, Safari, appears to be a wonderful piece of software. But what about iCab? What about Opera's Mac support? What about my favorite browser, Chimera (Mozilla-based for Mac)? Where's the incentive for these folks to continue to develop their software for the Mac platform only to have the chair pulled out from under them by the very company they are interested in helping?"
Good question.
When the safari browser was announced at macWorld Expo, one of my first thoughts was to wonder what it might due to Mac development of other browsers. So far, the OS X Mail app. doesn't seem to have harmed third-party email client development interest -- there are more email applications available for the Mac than ever, but only about 20 percent of the installed Mac user base has switched to OS X so far. iTunes, on the other hand, killed off the previously best Mac MP3 player, Casady and Green's,SoundJam (on which iTunes was based), although some worthy indie alternatives such as Audion and Cabrio are still available.
It will be interesting to see what happens. I hope that Safari will mainly displace Internet Explorer, and that Mozilla, Netscape, Chimera, iCab, OmniWeb, and Opera continue to develop browsers for the Mac. However, Mozilla recently terminated development of the Mozilla browser for the Classic Mac OS (before the Safari announcement), which is not an auspicious precedent. Dan Shafer may have a valid point.
Safari Enhancer 1.1 Activates Safari Hidden Features
Safari Enhancer is a programme for enabling several hidden features of the Safari webbrowser beta.
Among the things enabled are a debugging menu that allows you to do such things as enabling keyboard and mouse shortcuts, changing what browser Safari identifies itself as, and changing how Safari handles Security. Safari also lets you specifiy a minimum font size, as well as allowing you to turn off underlines on links and handling direct bookmark importing from Netscape, Internet Explorer, Chimera, Mozilla, OmniWeb, and iCab.

SafariCookieCutter 0.8 Cookie editor For Safari Web Browser
SafariCookieCutter is a simple cookie editor for Apple's new Safari Web browser. Since the public beta version of Safari does not come with any integrated cookie editor, this program was made to fulfill this need.
Cookies are persistent objects stored on your computer by the Web browser. Web servers use them to save data between sessions and then query the data back later. Cookies have some positive uses, such as remembering user names and passwords, but they can also be used for some sites (usually advertisers) to track your Web surfing habits. Cookie editors facilitate adding cookies to the system, and removing the ones you don't want.
System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

Safari German Language File 0.9.6 German localization for Safari
Safari dt. (Version 0.9.5) 11.1.03 01:19
Neu ab Version 0.9.5:
Zweiten Englisch.lproj Ordner übersetzt im
Safari > Contents > Frameworks > WebKit.framework > Versions > A > Resources Ordner
