Every now and then we download the source code of a
particular Web page so we can study it later. This is common
practice for anyone who designs or tweaks HTML pages, but
using Microsoft's Internet Explorer to do this can result in
some unexpected changes to the code...
Here's the word from someone who should know:
"If one uses Microsoft Internet Explorer to save
the source of a Web page on his local hard drive, IE
rewrites the page source to its own specifications,
inserting its own Meta tags, rewriting, HTML tags, tables
and attributes AND changing the lettercase of JavaScript
calls (a sure way to break Macromedia functions)."
Note that neither we nor our correspondent have absolute
proof of this, although we believe the information to be
accurate. In any event, BBEdit can help find any
changes.
