The Gartner Group has just released a report showing continued growth in both the worldwide and U.S. server markets. The best news for Apple watchers is that Cupertino's new Xserve line has helped the company increase its own server sales by 273.8 percent in the 3rd quarter of FY 2002. Here's a snapshot of the U.S. market: "The United States server market continued to show signs of recovery with a 12.2 percent increase in the third quarter of 2002, with shipments of 488,858 units, up from 435,620 in the third quarter of 2001 (see Table 2). Dell regained the No.1 position in the U.S server market garnering 26.3 percent of the market. HP fell to second place with 25.9 percent market share, followed by IBM, Sun Microsystems and Apple, respectively." Comments: Apple's third quarter sales of 5,700 units are miniscule compared to the U.S. market total of 488,858 for the same time period, but just think what they were before Xserve. The new Apple server has received excellent reviews, by the way, and with any luck at all should continue to rack up the orders (pun intended).
