FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- IDG World Expo today announced that 58,250 participants made the pilgrimage to Macworld Conference & Expo at the Jacob K. Javits Center last week (July 15-19, 2002) to experience the newest hardware and software for the Mac. Already the best-attended technology event in New York City as well as in San Francisco, this year's Macworld Conference & Expo/New York featured a show floor with nearly 250 exhibiting companies. People from all walks of life ? from educators to graphic artists, filmmakers to musicians, and young students to retired professionals packed the Javits Center to try out the latest Mac innovations. Attendees also gained valuable insight from industry visionaries in the event's conference program, which featured more than 170 workshops, conference sessions and hands-on labs. "Once again, the Mac community has come out in full force to investigate the latest for the Macintosh and learn from their peers," said Charlie Greco, president and CEO of IDG World Expo. "The passion and enthusiasm of this community drives the continued success of Macworld Conference & Expo. As New York City's largest technology event, Macworld is a bright light in an otherwise dim industry." "We at Alias|Wavefront were highly impressed with the Macworld New York Expo this year," said Karen Eisen, Global Industry marketing manager for Maya 3D software. "Despite the current economic climate, our booth was continuously swamped with show attendees eager to learn more about Maya on Mac OS X." In his keynote address on Wednesday, July 17th, Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced a flurry of new products, including a Windows-compatible iPod and 17-inch widescreen iMac. Jobs also previewed Mac OS X 10.2, or "Jaguar," which will be available ahead of schedule on August 24th. Other new products introduced include iCal, the company's new calendaring program; iSync, which syncs data between a user's iPod, Palm handheld and cell phone; and iTunes 3, an upgrade to the company's digital music software. Following the keynote, attendees flocked to the Macworld show floor for hands-on access to these and other new products, including:
"Macworld has been a great show for us," said Jason Ivan, director of product marketing at M-Audio's Consumer Division. "We were very impressed with the quality of the business and trade press that came by the booth. We are planning to double our space at the next Macworld to accommodate the high level of booth traffic." Macworld's conference program attracted thousands of attendees looking for training and top-notch educational sessions taught by Mac experts. Featuring educational sessions, in-depth workshops, hands-on labs, and interactive discussions, the agenda included sessions appropriate for beginners, hobbyists, and professionals, covering a wide variety of technical and creative topics. Four of five all-new Hands-on MacLabs were sold out, and many other sessions were filled to capacity. The Power Tools sessions, new to Macworld New York, were extremely popular with highest attendance at the Photoshop session. David Pogue, author and New York Times columnist, delivered a visionary but humorous special feature presentation entitled "Road to Mac OS XX" which took the 1,000-member audience on a journey through time to suggest what the Mac OS might look and act like in the future. Also at the show, Macworld magazine announced winners of the " Macworld Best of Show Awards," highlighting the most exciting new hardware and software products announced at Macworld Conference & Expo. Winners included @Last Software, 21st Century Media, Blizzard Entertainment, Detto, Discreet, El Gato, Epson, and other innovative companies. The next Macworld Conference & Expo will be held at San Francisco's Moscone Center, January 6-10, 2003. For more information on the upcoming event, please visit www.macworldexpo.com .
