Ten for X requires any Power Macintosh computer running Mac OS 10.1. Shining Technology launched at the Macworld Conference (Booth #574) the CitiDISK DV, a plug-and-play FireWire storage solution. For avid Mac professionals and video editors, the CitiDISK DV offers portability (product comes battery equipped) and direct recording DV streams from camcorder to hard disks and instant playback from the computer. All of the DV streams are recorded and organized as computer-recognizable files, and users can instantly play back, edit, review and archive files. In addition, the CitiDISK DV hard disk has an IEEE 1394 standard that acts as a regular FireWire for data storage when not being used in multimedia applications. FireWire is a cross-platform implementation of the high-speed serial data bus that can move large amounts of data between computers and peripheral devices. It features simplified cabling, hot swapping and transfer speeds of up to 400 megabits per second. In accelerating the movement of multimedia data and large files, FireWire is ideally suited for the connection of digital consumer products, such as digital camcorders, digital videotapes, digital videodisks, set-top boxes and music systems, directly to a Mac. A variety of data indicate that major manufacturers of multimedia devices have been adopting FireWire technology at a rapid pace. "Since 1998, Shining Technology has been developing 1394 products for this emerging market," said Chris Wang, the company's U.S. marketing manager. "We believe that the direct recording and instant playback capabilities provided by CitiDISK DV truly represent a breakthrough in data storage solutions for the Macintosh and editing professionals. We are excited to debut the product at Macworld Expo." With CitiDISK DV, users can cut, paste or add special effects and other functions immediately, without re-capturing. The computer reads in the DV stream as 66 MBs/sec (ATA66), which is four times faster than capturing the data from a camcorder. DV streams are recorded in a pre-formatted HFS+ or FAT32 computer-recognizable file. In addition, users can save final rendered video streams into CitiDISK DV in the same speed, which is four times faster than backing up to a FireWire tape deck. Key applications for the product include online capture for home video camcorder and digital video cassette player archive, computer data file backup and archive, Web video capture, and multimedia. CitiDISK is currently available through retail outlets, as well as being sold to OEMs. Depending on options, pricing ranges from $499 (20GB) to $649 (40GB). Tenon affirmed that they have no plans to change the name to .Mac. iTools - a suite of tools for serious webmasters from Tenon. .Mac - a suite of web services for everyone from Apple. eX-cinder Releases Sphaera (TP) 3D Solution For Mac OS X eX-cinder today launched Sphaera (TP) for Mac OS X, Apple’s next generation operating system. Sphaera TP (Technology Preview) is an early look at a Mac OS X application for creating 3D content. Sphaera allows you to model, animate and render 3D scenes as images and movies. It is written from the ground up with Cocoa, and uses a lot of Mac OS X core technologies to achieve its goals. Using Sphaera, you can model objects using usual 3D techniques, such as the built-in primitives, revolving a curve around an axis or moving the control points of a NURBs surface. Next, you may add textures, either image-based or procedural. Then animate by moving and deforming your objects over time and eventually render your scene to a QuickTime movie.
